Chris Stovall Brown Tonight! Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line 8:30 to 11:30 12.4.2014

dave-sag-rl-4-3-2014 (1)

Ho, Ho. Ho! Marry Christmas with music, and what do you get?…The gift that keeps on giving, even during your nightmares. In the spirit of Xmas passed and presence, I offer you my  favorite crowd- stomping musical buddies this coming black lung season, so, let’s get going!
This Thursday nite sees the return of that comedic, string-biting master of guitar and harp: Mr.Chris “Stovetop” Brown. Long a mainstay of the Rhode Island and Boston scene, his antics and dry humor will have you on your worst behavior! Forrest “Frosty” Padgett, drum-dribbler and all-around go to guy handles the boom booms. I’ll be the object of derision. Phew! what a nite!
Sunday, I’ll be re-living the nightmare at O’Reilly’s Bar in Newton. With Chris and a cast of thousands. Call for info.

Peabody Essex Museum Art Basel New York Times Theo Jansen’s art walk in Miami

Hey Joey,

Coming to theaters December 2015, have you seen the new Star Wars trailer? Museums kindle interest with trailers, too, and there’s one in Miami that may go viral.

This week the art scene is all about Art Basel Miami, the annual contemporary art fair juggernaut. With so many international artists, galleries, exhibits and events, it can be difficult to get any coverage at all. The single event the New York Times Magazine featured last weekend to build anticipation for Art Basel Miami was the Peabody Essex Museum prelude for Theo Jansen’s 2015 national tour. The story quickly climbed to the #1 most emailed articles for the NYT magazine. Jansen’s kinetic sculptures are on most media short lists as a must see experience at this year’s Art Basel Miami (e.g. Huffington Post Art Basel to do list)

Trevor PEM

PEM is featuring Dutch artist Theo Jansen at Art Basel Miami to herald the national museum tour for Strandbeests, managed and debuting at the Peabody Essex Museum in the fall of 2015.

Will there be a chance to marvel at these curiosities in our natural world? Will we encounter a herd at Good Harbor, Wingaersheek, or Singing beaches? I’m not sure. These graceful engineered beings seem a good fit for visiting our shores and inspiring wonder. Does anyone remember the Crane’s Beach dune buggy scene from the 1968 Thomas Crown Affair with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway?

PEM ranks in the top 10 largest collections in the country and is growing fast. I’m not sure where the Jansen exhibit will be installed within the museum, but I bet connections will be past, present and future all betwixt and between.  I am anticipating and looking forward to the Jansen exhibit calling forth my memories of the dinosaur fossil skeletons and mounted installations. I remember feeling awestruck by the scale of the objects within the spaces and purpose. “That every mariner may possess the History of the World”.

Special congratulations to PEM curator, Trevor Smith, for the Theo Jansen exhibit. On December 5th, he’ll be with Theo Jansen as part of Art Basel Salon discussions. Trevor launched the FreePort contemporary artist commissions at Peabody Essex Museum in 2010. He helped as a juror for the Gloucester HarborWalk Public Art Challenge.

Cape Ann Artisans 1st Ever Holiday Group Show and Sale

image002

In 2013, the Cape Ann Artisans were invited to show their work together for the first time at the Cape Ann Museum.  The opening and exhibit was one of the most popular ever to be held at the Museum.   Building on that success, the Artisans will go “on the road” again for a first time ever combined Holiday Show.  This time, the destination is Rockport at the Rockport Art Association.

As an extension of the popular “Shop Rockport’s” special evening planned by the merchants for Friday December 5th, the Artisans will display and sell their wares in the heart of the Rockport Cultural District on Friday evening and continue through Saturday.

“This is a wonderful collaboration between the RAA and Cape Ann Artisans to bring together our audiences and expand gift giving of hand-made artist works in our community,” says Carol Linsky Executive Director of the RAA,  “in fact, many of the artisans represented in this show are also juried artist members of the RAA.”

The majority of Artisans will participate in the show, but not all.  Those whose works are challenging to move around invite the public to contact their individual studios for a visit.

With winter upon us, the Artisans hope that by moving under one roof, they can make “shopping local” even more convenient for Cape Ann art lovers.

What you will see: Unique works by 18 Artisans in a variety of media including glass jewelry, sea glass accessories, colagraphs, pottery, painting, photographs, and hand painted silk, stone sculpture, weaving, mosaics, and more! You will also enjoy RAA’s Masterpieces in Miniature small works show.

Details:

• December 5th 4-9PM, December 6th 10-3 PM

• Admission is free; snacks provided

• Rockport Art Association, 12 Main Street, Rockport, MA.

• For further information contact Pam Stratton, Cape Ann Artisans President pamstratton@verizon.net  or 978-546-7582.

LADIES NIGHT IS TONIGHT!!! THURSDAY DECEMBER 4TH, 2014

LADIES NIGHT IS TONIGHT!!!

 THURSDAY DECEMBER 4TH, 2014

First and only thing I’ve heard about it was the lone promo I got from Pop Gallery.

Chop Chop!  Send in your ladies night promo here- goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com

Edit:  Who is in charge of Downtown any more?  The Chamber?  The Downtown Merchant Group?  Is it every man for themselves down there?  Nothing in Todays Times, nothing from anyone except Pop Gallery seems strange.

Eastern Point Lit House:

We’re having Eastern Point Lit House’s Author Night that Kim posted two days ago in conjunction with Ladies Night. We didn’t really include the words Ladies Night in our promos because we thought there would be more noise about it and everyone would assume. I’m surprised too that there wasn’t more promo for this. Anyway, we’re having a raffle for cool gifts, etc. Nine authors, one night. Signed books for all ages and interests make great gifts!
