Poll- With Giusepppes Closed What Kind Of Restaurant Would You Like To Fill That Space

I think the only void we have in the dining scene on Cape Ann is Indian Food. If you’ve been to Anmol in Beverly you know it’s really fantastic. If we could lure the owners of Anmol to open up in the space in the basement of the Blackburn Building that would be round out Gloucester’s dining menu.

What type of restaurant would you like to see there?

Edit: After thinking about this I’m not sure that we have a true Steak House here. That would be something that could add to our dining options. However with the crazy high price of good beef I’m not sure that we could support a real deal Steak House. We could have a place that serves steak obviously but to get real aged beef after you triple your food cost (how most restaurants come up with their pricing) I don’t think we have enough people having business meetings on company credit cards that don’t care that they are spending $40 for a steak and $100 bottle of wine. That’s big city stuff.

So I stand by my original choice of Indian food. Oh and for the people that have never tried Indian food, you’re really missing out. Anmol is a treasure for the people in Beverly.

  1. i talked to Anmol on Wednesday and connected them to the owner of the Blackburn. They had a meeting on Friday. Anmol is looking for a spot in Gloucester

    1. Results are overwhelmingly in favor of an Indian restaurant, David maybe you can bring the poll results to the people at Anmol to show them and perhaps convince them to set up shop here in Gloucester.

  2. I would just about kill to have an Indian restaurant in town. But Anmol would not be my first choice…Taste of India in Malden and Medford’s Kebab Korner, despite its cutesy name–those are two that are worth pursuing. Also, we don’t have Peruvian food in town. That’s supposed to be some yummy chow.

  3. I know one way to tip the scales of your poll…. Making a suggestion at the end… having worked in the industry for 7 years in gloucester I’ve learned a few things. Gloucester wants cheap food they can related to, that they don’t want to make at home. Asian food works in take out settings only in this town. Ask Thai Choice, possibly the most successful in town, 85% take out. Someone needs to step out of the box and bring something simple with TVs. Lots of great restaurants in town, but we need another place that locals can afford to go to multiple times a week to sustain it…only one place in town I can think of so far….Stone’s…

  4. PS I’ve tried Indian food several times in Portsmouth, NH, it’s delicious. Ask yourself though, would it actually last in Gloucester… Let’s be honest, no!

  5. Prefer something other than Indian but whatever goes in should continue promoting local music… Not sure if that works with Indian cuisine.

    1. We already have a ton of venues for local music promotion. Personally, I want a place to eat where I don’t also have to listen to a band that I have no interest in while I try to converse with the table.

      1. I like the food at Thai choice, but not the atmosphere so I only use it for takeout. Too bad because I would often prefer to eat there but too bright/stark.

  6. I think an Indian restaurant would be great , but what about an organic restaurant that serves really fresh
food from local area’s? There was a comment earlier that” people in Gloucester just want cheap food” that
is far from the truth, as you can see the higher end restaurants have more than their share of business, my new favorite restaurant is Short and Main ! Really Great!

  7. Hi, it’s great to have a restaurant poll. My suggestion would be to add an “other” column so people could write in different suggestions. In my book, really good Mexican and really good Chinese are missing in this town.

    Thanks!!

  8. Joey I totally agree that Anmol is pretty awesome, I would love to see them in Gloucester and think they would do great…. their service is friendly and food is super yummy great place to take the kids to experience something different !!! we have tons of great restaurants in town Indian would be a great addition to the mix 🙂
if one wants to watch Tv while dinning instead of enjoying their dinner and friends they should stay at home and order take out….or maybe choose one of the restaurants we already have in town with lots of TVs and music

    1. I mentioned this poll to my husband at dinner last night and he was so excited about the prospect of an Indian restaurant. The space is so cozy, I imagine it could be made very magical and inviting on a relatively modest budget. We’ve never been to Anmol, but it is definitely on our radar screen now!
