Folly Cove has historically been known for hosting small fishing boats in the hake fishery, and also for loading Cape Ann granite onto granite schooners. A breakwater was built there for that purpose by the Rockport Granite Company in 1906. It would be great to get another restaurant out there. Prime spot just waiting for someone to take over!
Folly cove was the end of my paper route GDT on weekends I would go over to the clam shack and restaurant to eat…The clam shack was seasonal closed during winter had fried clams by pint or quart boxes, french fries, onion rings, fish and chips type…I wish I could remember the name…
We used to walk from lanes cove to folley cove all the time on the rocks or take Langsford street to where it meets up with Washington street and walk over there…Thanks Fred! Dave & Kim 🙂
About 50 years ago my parents and I and our dog used to travel from Scotia, N.Y. to Folly Cove to vacation for two weeks every summer in one of several small cabins known as “Folly Cove Cottages” a couple of hundred feet up past a place known as “The Lobster Pound”. We would walk down there for fresh lobster to cook at our cabin, as well as to buy fresh cooked clams and other ocean delights.
Current views from “The Lobster Pool” look the same as I remember from the “Lobster Pound” so I wonder if it is the same place which has been transformed over the years? Also, I can find no “Folly Cove Cottages” online so I suppose they are long gone and have been replaced with either more upscale motels or hotels, or private residences since this was prime ocean-side real estate.
I have many photos taken during these treasured vacations and would like some day to return and witness whatever changes have occurred — because, whatever they may be, in my mind’s eye I am sure I would be able to envision the simple, unblemished beauty of the area as we experienced it all those years ago.

I remember the place too my family ran them. Basically the place looks the same, the cottages were remodeled and enlarged.
