Nino Cannova and his F/V Christina Eleni in Gloucester Harbor. Nino, originally from Sicily, has been fishing his whole life. He lands multi-species including Cod, Haddock, Monkfish, Skate and Flounder, going out for 2-3 days at a time.
For those of you who have been anxiously waiting for the race boat launch, you will have the opportunity to help out tomorrow morning. We will be meeting at Eastern Ave Self Storage in Gloucester at 8:30 AM tomorrow Saturday May 10th to load up the freshly painted race dories, then trailer them to the High School landing. This process shouldn’t take long, but we need bodies to load and unload as well as trailers to tow. Please respond if you can help! Looking forward to a great rowing/racing season.

A native of Guadalajara, Mexico, Barragan first studied engineering but moved toward architecture after coming under the influence of the French-German writer Ferdinand Bac and Le Corbusier. Best known for his modernist work of simple shapes expressed in bright colors, Barragan rejected functionalism for what he called “emotional architecture.” He was the second person to be awarded the Pritzker Prize (1980). His house and studio in Mexico City are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It was moving so fast through the reeds and then dove under, so I couldn’t get a great shot of it. It could have been a beaver, or it could be the Niles Pond variety of the Loch Ness monster.
Yesterday we told you the minute a few good seats were released for John Sebastian (they were gone within an hour of our post). Today we’re giving you fair warning that $20 advance tickets for Entrain will be gone by noon tomorrow.

Massachusetts State Senator Bruce Tarr and City Counselor/ “The Godmother” Sefatia Giambanco Romeo Theken
The Godmother writes~“Having a nice espresso after a rewarding evening. I volunteered tonight for Open Door Empty Bowl it actually is a selfish volunteering because I always get more than I give and I meet the most amazing people have fun and do it for a good cause. I do it cuz I’m selfish. You should try it u will never regret the time you give I never have”
Last nights “Empty Bowl” fundraiser event was one of many held nationally to generate awareness concerning hunger and to raise money for local hunger relief programs. Proceeds from last nights event will benefit open-door summer meal and mobile market programs.

Here in the rehab, we’re served toast or English muffins with breakfast, accompanied by a tiny .05 oz. sealed cup of so-so jelly. It made me think: I didn’t know the difference between jelly, jam, and preserves. Quite a few people I asked didn’t know either, especially guys. Here’s what I use now and how they differ. -Jelly (L): Cooked fruit juice with sugar and thickened with pectin. -Jam (M): Crushed fruit cooked with sugar. Pectin is in the fruit. Less of a gelled texture than jelly. -Preserves (R): Cooked fruit with sugar. Fruit is in medium to large chunks.
