  1. So many of our contemporary comics thank Lenny Bruce for inspiration in respects that a word is just a word but it is the meaning that WE choose to associate with it makes it a BAD word. Like George Carlin’s 7 or so words you can’t say on TV and his skit on that or Richard Prior with all the words you can’t use or one long beep of censorship and no one wants their first amendment rights trampled on. However if you wish to communicate on social networking sites yo have to read between the lines or use substitutes like the F-word the N-word the C-word I guess I won’t be having my cerial with fruit and nuts this morning. Still in a losing effort not to offend I don’t bark like those leaders of the pack but keep my place in line and keep a civil tounge in my head. People call me quiet. I’m just tired of arguing and having to worry about my words and not their intent.

  2. OK…going out on a limb here…. you can cut it off if you want. I think the English language is powerful enough without needing swears to make it colorful. I find it hard to listen to someone who is constantly interjecting the F-word, not even for emphasis but, more as a filler instead of the ubiquitous “ums” or “you knows” of yesteryear. People who know me know that when I swear it is because I feel really strongly about whatever it is. I agree that no word is “bad” in and of itself but its use can certainly be inappropriate or unnecessary. And I guess that human behavior study wasn’t counting President Nixon who made Lenny Bruce seem tame… unless of course you hold Tricky Dick up as your paradigm of honest and trustworthy types!
