Unidentified Bird Visitor

unidentified bird visitor

This little bird flew into the gallery and couldn’t find his way back out.  At first I thought it was a vireo, but now I’m not sure.  His underside was paler yellow than a gold finch, and above was olive green.  Does anyone know what he is?  I did eventually catch him, but then he ended up in Diana’s Gallery.

    1. I think you got it Kim. I’ve never seen one before, but having a name to look it, it certainly looks like that is what it was. Have you ever seen one before?

      1. In the photo it appears to have a faint eye ring however it is difficult to tell because the bird is in shadow. Yes, I have seen these before, in my garden and on Eastern Point. Perhaps also a female Common Yellowthroat. Was the entire belly yellowish?

        1. It did have a faint eye ring, but not white, and the belly was yellowish all the way, as far as I could see. He/she was very fast moving and darted from one part of the gallery to the other, chirped alot, and only stayed put in one place briefly before flying off again.

    1. A female Hooded Warbler looks close, but the olive green head color extended below the eyes to the cheeks of this one, where it ends over the eyes of the Hooded Warbler. I agree that there wasn’t a white eye ring on the visitor.

  1. I’ve had a couple of these in my yard for the last two days. I thought Vireo too. Didn’t get a picture and now sorry because maybe I could have seen an eye ring. I’ll go check out my crabapple where they were yesterday and see if I can snap a pic. Nice you were able to get him out but I guess he was determined to be indoors!
