The Fish on Fridays series is a collaboration between Gloucester photographers Kathy Chapman and Marty Luster. Look for various aspects of Gloucester’s centuries-old fishing industry highlighted here on Fridays.
Although not native to the waters of Cape Ann, little compares to these Blue Point, Westport, CT oysters, shucked and devoured at Gloucester’s Wingaersheek Beach. Kathy recently mastered the art of shucking and showed Marty how to find the hinge to unlock the shells. She also shared them with Fred Bodin (Bodin Historic Photo) and made a video of his technique.
I'm Marty Luster, a retired attorney and politician. In 2010 my wife, mother-in-law, dog and I relocated from Central NY to Gloucester. I hope my photographs and poetry(?) reflect my love for this place and her people.

And boy were these tasty! The closest locally grown oysters to us are Ipswich Oysters. The ones I had were purchased in Gloucester, and were large and delicious.
Yum… Cathy we may need to hire your new found skill and have an oyster night! (They are related to octopus though, so I’ll need to do a test first to make sure I don’t end up in the Emergency Room! One allergic reaction is enough to warn me!)
Nice pictures! Thanks for the House of the Raven plug! That picture came out well. Thanks to Fred Bodin for lending his camera in a pinch!
Glad “Fish on Fridays” is back. Really enjoy it.
