Discover Gloucester Weekly From Linn Parisi

Dear Joey and GMG FoBs (Friends of this amazing blog 🙂

I’m proud to tell you that I’m going "behind bars" to help in the fight against muscle disease. I’ll be cell to cell with many local people caught doing good work and helping to help raise critical funds for MDA. I need your help to reach my bail!

The Cape Ann 2012 Lock Up takes place on June 6, 2012, but I’m raising my bail before I go to jail! All you have to do is click here to make a secure, online donation today. Your support will help families living in our community with muscle disease, and help guarantee that I get out of jail. I will be sure to add you to my list of contributors.

Please support me in this important goal by visiting my fundraising page and making a contribution. Your tax-deductible donation makes a difference to the hundreds of kids, adults and their families who live right here on Cape Ann.

So come on, Discover Gloucester partners, friends of the blog, and of mine and Nick’s near and far! Thanks in advance for your help. Don’t hesitate to call or email me with questions.

Many Thanks from Linn Parisi

Liv (Daughter of Kim Smith) Guest Post

A few days ago I informed my mother and GMG contributor Kim Smith that I would be coming home to Gloucester for a short visit.

Immediately the first question she asked me was, "What do you want for dinner your first night home?" Of course I didn’t have to think twice about the answer: lobsters from Captain Joe’s! It had been months since I had fresh lobster; I suffer through flavorless, overpriced lobster tempura in sushi rolls and rubbery lobster nuggets in wanna-be lobster rolls during the winter months in NYC. The only thing I wanted was to get my hands on a tender, juicy two pounder straight off the boat, and boy did Joey C deliver.

Last night my family enjoyed our scrumptious boiled lobsters accompanied by artichokes, pasta pesto, and a refreshing salad. It was simply the perfect summer meal! Today I had the pleasure of visiting the king of the lobsters himself on his docks, the "epicenter of the lobster world", to see exactly where my delectable crustaceans come from. I was in heaven surrounded by the bins of live lobsters just waiting to go in my belly (sorry, PETA), and even got a few to model with me. Thanks to Joey for having me!

First Fresh Rocky Neck Strawberry of 2012!

Hi Joey,

Looks like Strawberry season started on Rocky Neck early this year!  Here’s a shot of our first picked strawberry – picked Saturday, May 19, 2012. It was small, a little misshaped, and was pretty tart when eaten.  If it was a lobster you would have thrown it back…

Enjoy!

Two People from Ipswich Meet in Gloucester

That may not seem so strange, but Maureen Farley is from Ipswich, MA and Jon Bartlett is from Ipswich, England.  They met at the Rhumb Line in Gloucester, although Jon came here specifically to visit Ipswich.  Maureen is a friend of the blog, Jon has now been introduced to the blog and plans to take his shiny new GMG sticker back to England with him and represent from Ipswich, and then take a trip to Gloucester, England and represent from there.  I have a feeling Jon is a new FOB in the making, and that we’ll be seeing him back in Gloucester (USA that is) soon.  And don’t he and Maureen make a cute couple?

Another new song by Allen Estes ~ perfect for the summer kick-off!

He’s on a roll, folks.  Every week we hear a new Allen Estes song — and they keep getting better too!  This gem is featured on Local Music Seen TONIGHT at 6:30 on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  Chelsea Berry is Allen’s guest on this week’s show — and she has a beautiful new song too — must be something in the air!

If case you forgot, Chelsea will be opening for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre on June 28 with her new band — and they ROCK.  Imagine Chelsea’s powerful voice soaring over a rockin’ new band.  This will be the first time you can see them together on a magical night in an intimate listening venue with perfect sound.  Tickets are selling fast, so don’t wait until the last minute — get tickets here.

Sun’s out today.  Seven shows tonight.  Summer’s here in spirit.  Check out the music lineup here.

Alert: John McElhenny Doctors Warn That Skinny Jeans Can Cause Nerve Damage

Johnny Johnny Johnny.  How long have I been telling you that wearing these skinny jeans just ain’t right.  I didn’t need no stinkin doctor to tell me.

Isn’t it obvious that when your junk is all mashed up inside your body cavity that it just isn’t normal?

Please Johnny we don’t want to see you do any more irreparable damage to yourself than you already have.

I’m sure second Glance or The Dress Code can take that closet full of skinny jeans of yours off your hands.

Before it’s too late Johnny.  You mean too much to the our community with all of the civic minded good that you do. Please.  If not for your boy Joey C, if not for your community, then do it for Luke and Ruby so when pictures of you surface when they are in college they won’t have to deny you as their father or just say it was some terrible photoshop joke that made it look that way.
