I don’t know how I’ve gone 44 years of my life without ever going to Halibut State Park. It is a perfect day adventure for next to zero cost. Pack a picnic lunch and just go. Go with your lover, go with your family, go with your friends, go with your dog or just go alone.
It is a GEM.

Isn’t it funny how the people that have always lived in a particular location haven’t visited places that tourists (or those of us who WERE tourists …. and are now ecstatic transplants) regularly haunt. Halibut State Park is indeed a gem and on a day like today all you can say is “I’m so lucky to be living here!”

Went there a few weeks ago. Hadn’t been to HSP for 20+ years. Found lots of picture perfect spots. Learned afterward that the tower is the Visitor’s Center & that “The 60-foot tall structure offers panoramic views that extend as far north as the coast of Maine.” Gotta go back and go up in the tower.

truly a GEM as you say! – summertime= talks, walks and butterfly searches offered by staff; lunch on the rocks by the pounding surf with afternoon musical offerings near the exhibit bldg.; fall = autumn splendor even in fog; winter =usually!- cross-country skiing and snowshoeing! views to NH & ME. It doesn’t get any better especially if your picnic is lobstahs!

Right! Been going there every year with my German and American friends and loving it. Especially beautiful: the sunsets there looking west.

In the 80s when I would come to Cape Ann as a full fledged tourist really the only place I went was Halibut Point and the Lobster Pool next door for fried clams. I never knew there was an actual city on this island along with about a thousand other really cool places to experience.
There are still a ton of places I have not checked out but reading GMG every day I feel like I am at least half done. Haven never been to Rafe’s Chasm. Maybe this weekend.

I’ll add to your plug.
It’s def a must visit. Lots of great vantage points for photographers.
For anyone that may be doing the Cape Ann Artisans Tour (indirect plug ;-))) this is a drive by. Pack a cooler and have your lunch at HSP.
