I have negatives that have a condition called “silvering.” There’s a silvery sheen on the emulsion side that, when printed, look a lot like yours, Fr Matthew. The best I can do with them is put in a high contrast filter and burn in all the edges.

Kinda ironic, Fred… You work to get rid of the damage to make old photos look like new; I take new photos and work to make them look old…
