As we move into late winter and early spring, be on the lookout for young foxes in their cozy dens amid the granite boulders. This one lived at our last residence in NY, but I have seen one from my kitchen window here in Gloucester.

I love this photo! It really captures the essence of fox. They’re so beautiful, shy, smart. They’re an interesting mixture of feline and canine–certainly doglike in their appearance, but if you watch fox cubs them play they’re like kittens with a ball of yarn–such dainty paws. So many people are scared of foxes, but having a fox den in your backyard is a priceless opportunity to get to know them.
