Moonrise behind Our Lady of Good Voyage

On my way to an appointment yesterday evening, I saw this amazing view. I turned my car around on Prospect St. and parked in order to snap this shot – and met another photographer who had done exactly the same thing at the same spot (we ended up parked one behind the other, and shooting from the same spot on the sidewalk…).

Shopping Spree at Dawn

As the lunar eclipse began at dawn this morning there was also big time excitement up at the Market Basket at Gloucester Crossing. Michelle Bjorgen, winner of the Open Door Pantry 3 minute shopping spree was at the starting line at 6:30 AM. Brad, Bradley and Tori Bjorgen cheered as the shopping cart was filled while Julie LaFontaine Director of the Open Door and store manager Glenn Connors officiated.

All in all it was a fun start to the day and as we all left the store the full moon found an opening in the clouds so we could view the last lunar eclipse of 2011. (Anyone get a photo?)

Community Stuff Saturday Version

Joe, hope this finds you well! Just wanted to start by saying I am a big fan of GMG. Having grown up in Gloucester, its a great way to keep updated on whats going on back in my hometown. Wanted to introduce myself to you, my name is Jon Goodhue, spent most of my life in Gloucester until I moved to San Diego, CA at 23 to pursue my music career. Most of my family, including my mother, sister, and grandmother still reside on Church St.! I have many friends back east, most of them Fiesta freaks as I too walk the Friday Greasy Pole every year and carry the statue every Sunday.

I’m writing this letter to you in hopes that you can help me out. After 10+ years of playin music and trying to make a career out of it, I’m finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Over the past month I have had several sit down meetings with people who have stepped up the plate and support my music. I can get into it all another time, but it has all lead to me being in the process of recording a 5 song EP that will be produced by Traa Daniels, the bass player of the well-acclaimed rock band, P.O.D, who had such singles as "Alive", "Youth Of The Nation", and "Boom!". I’m very excited as we started pre-production for the disc on Saturday and there seemed to be a lot of chemistry.

Anywho, I hope this could be some fuel for you to do a write-up on GMG, as it may benefit you as well as myself as I look to create a stronger fanbase. Let me know what you think, I have links to my work below, thanks Joe, take care!

Blue Shutters-

This is the season for giving, and over the past few weeks, friends of the Blue Shutters have been showing their holiday spirit.

This began in November, with our Taste of Latin America Open House in support of the work of Por Cristo, a group that helps the poorest of Ecuador with medicine, medical equipment and medical training.  On November 20, the Blue Shutters became a shopping bazaar for the day, where guests could purchase jewelry, scarves, blankets and other items from Ecuador – with all proceeds going to support Por Cristo’s work.  More than $2000 was raised in just a few hours, thanks to the generosity of those who joined us that day.

On December 3, the Blue Shutters held its annual tree-trimming event, and we offered special discounts to guests who brought a food item for Gloucester ’s Open Door food pantry.  Here’s our tree, with a basket of some of the donations collected that day.

Donations came not only from guests, but also from friends, family and neighbors who stopped by for some holiday cheer.  Here are just some of those who were with us that afternoon and evening.

For those who’d like to see the Blue Shutters decked out for the holidays, please feel free to stop in – the innkeepers will be on hand… along with our new “snow girl” mascot that all the guys seem to enjoy.
