Heading Out of Smith’s Cove
My View of Life on the Dock
People love giving the cd calendars as gifts , but there’s always the need for a kitchen calendar you can write appointments and stuff on. So for those who requested it, this year with the help of everyone at Seaside Graphics, the Cape Ann wall calendar was added. You can order yours here. And if you don’t need shipping, be sure to hit the lower Buy Now button so there’ll be no shipping charges. Thanks! —Sharon
well, sure. yours is probably a copy neg (5×7 is way too big) of one of several stereograph images of city hall (each side albumen plate 3×4 and joined on a piece of clear glass to print the stereo card) taken by erastus g. rollins about 1872 from the tower of the unitarian church on middle st. to the left of the building is franklin square. on the right is the nice circular drive fronting warren st. cape ann museum has rollins’s original glass negs of these views in their archive (without homie poop all over them) as well as the stereo cards printed by rollins and succeeding owners of the plates. we also have bryant and rogers’ original plans of the building. c’mon down!

p.s. don’t think alice m. curtis was taking photos in the 1870s.

Hi Joey,
Some noisy crows attracted my attention to this magnificent bird passing by Lane’s Cove this morning. Can someone help me identify it?
Cheers,
Martha Lazarus
My completely uneducated guess is a Red Tailed Hawk but hope to hear from the many bird watching freaks that frequent GMG ![]()

Imagine you’re this cat-
Photo from this blog-http://jimmiechew.wordpress.com/
You’re a handsome cat, right?
Proud, well groomed and all, just chillin’ looking like a bad ass.
And then your owner goes and fucks your shit all up to pieces by dressing you up
We can only pray that this poor once-proud feline doesn’t gouge it’s owners eyes out while they sleep in an act of well deserved revenge.
Shit ain’t right.
I’m no fan of the crazies at PETA but if they really cared about the mistreating of animals they’d be all over this and perform some type of intervention.
If our poor deceased cat JJ Jinglenuts was still alive (god rest his soul) I’d send him in ninja style to help this poor kitty.
JJ was a silent assassin. laying out his kills at the front door, all proud. Chipmonks, mice, birds- JJ Jinglenuts wouldn’t tolerate wearing any pansy burberry print coat. Oh Hell NO. and to be honest he wouldn’t have had to endure the ridicule by all his kitty cat buddies because I never would have submitted him to that. It was bad enough we had his nuts lopped off, what were we gonna go dress him up like Liberace next? No way Jose.
(note no fairy clothing present)
But alas Mr Jingles couldn’t keep up his ways forever and karma caught up with him-

Just got a call from the Mrs.
Our neighbor just popped by to let her know that there’s a tore up cat in his yard and it looks like JJ. I guess all the killing of the mice and the chipmunks finally caught up to the poor fella and an animal a little higher on the food chain got him last night.
JJ I hope you’re having fun up in heaven and there is plenty of fine pussy up there for you to play with. We’ll miss you buddy.
We got JJ as a kitten at the animal shelter in Salem. It was after a long period of trying to conceive our first child without success and many medical procedures. Within a month of JJ’s arrival into our home The Mrs became pregnant with The Bean.
Over breakfast the other morning one of our contributors shared the fact that a youngster in her family had confessed to having sex, matter of factly.
So I posed the question-
At what age do you give the birds and the bees speech? Your thoughts?
At what age do you offer to assist your kid with getting condoms or on “the pill”? Your thoughts?

Hi-Pete Kelley here-Sports Director at North Shore 104.9. I saw the piece on Savannah Pallazola around the 15th of November and been amazed by this little girl everytime I see here around town. Originally dedicated in 1893, Our Lady of Good Voyage was built for the Portuguese community in Gloucester, after they petitioned the Roman Catholic Church for the establishment of a place to worship dedicated to the Madonna. Large numbers of Portuguese immigrants migrated from the rugged Azores Islands and began settling around Gloucester’s Inner Harbor as early as 1829 to work in the city’s active fishing industry. By 1888, approximately 200 Portuguese families lived in Gloucester making it the largest Portuguese colony on the East Coast. According to the story of Our Lady of Good Voyage, a stranded fisherman in the rough Atlantic Ocean broke one of his oars and could not return to his homeport. He sought help from the Madonna and the sea miraculously calmed allowing him to reach port safely. click below for More:
