It’s the sad end of an era to the Gloucester waterfront. Maybe there is a remote possibility that it could be rebuilt to the orginal specs. Wishful thinking? Hope not.
The group is planning on rebuilding it according to laser measured specs. but don’t count on it for years. they have too raise millions of dollars to clean up and rebuild the site. I Think they are up over their heads. did they know that going in? i hope not. i’d like to be positive about this site. non profit=no taxes, no required rebuilding to spec. I hope mr. Kerr keeps his promise to rebuild it to spec. hopefully before i pass this earthly world.
I know it has to be done, but it is still heartbreaking to see. I’m almost glad I’m not home today looking out on it. Thanks for sharing your pics.

It is sad to see. When I first got Sober here in Gloucester over 14 years ago, I used to walk down there, and sit and reflect on where drinking and messing around had led me up till that moment that allowed me to change my life around. It was nice to sit and look at that old building, knowing it had a similar banged up story, but was still standing the test of time.
Luckily for me, I had some great chances and people in my life that helped me “Renovate” myself to the person I am today. Sad to see it go, but glad it will bring new life and opportunity for the future in that area.
Dan, that’s a wonderful story about your personal experience with the paint factory and what it means to you, but don’t despair. Ocean Alliance is planning to renovate most of the buildings to look as they always have, only more like they used to when they weren’t in such disrepair (just as you renovated yourself). The one that got demo’d today was falling into the harbor and was beyond repair. Thanks for sharing.
