I beg to differ but, I think you will find that is not Sheedy’s Beach. Sheedy’s Beach is bounded by the east end of Rocky Neck Ave and Eastern Point Road. That may be Ratcliff Beach and is definitely an old town landing on Rocky Neck. I lived a few minutes walk from there until 1969 and kept a boat there for years. Bill

I think Sheedy’s beach is down near the park, Cuzin. This is Flynn’s beach.

When was it named Sheedy’s Beach? I lived across the street from the beach at Oakes Cove for many years and never heard it called that by anyone….

I think if you check you will find that Sheedy’s Beach is on the east side of Rocky Neck Av., at the Jct. Rocky Neck Av. and Eastern Point Road. I’m not sure what the beach you show is as we always referred to it as the old town landing. I lived nearby and kept a boat there for years. I lived on Ledge Lane which enters Eastern Pt. Road just before Patch;s hill opposite Sheedy’s beach.

no not Flynn’s beach…Ed Flynn, a former City Councilor, and quite a character, lived at a house that existed, where the one in your first photo is…hence why some refer to it as Flynn’s beach…FYI Joe Jeswald, who was a great artist and one of the founders of Monseratt (sp?) school of Art in Beverly also lived there 50 or so years ago…I believe it is only known as Oak Cove…

I would not call it Sheedy or Flynn. I would take the word of Brenda Malloy who described the beach where the Rocky Neck Plunge occurs. She calls it Oak Cove Beach. Since I did the plunge I would call it “Freeze my Rubber Ducky and Nads Beach”.
Rocky Neck Plunge Info from Brenda Malloy-
Thought it may be a good idea to give people some directions on exactly where the beach is that The Rocky Neck Plunge takes place. It is called Oak Cove Beach at the end of Stevens Way, neither of which names are commonly known to most, even on Rocky Neck!

I grew up on Rocky Neck and it was called Flynn’s beach because the Flynn’s did live in the house there but Mr. Hatch always referred to it as the Old Town Landing. The Sea Scouts kept their dories there. It is also, I believe, where the water rights for Rocky Neck residents is located. Steven’s Way, is where Bertha’s Penny Candy and Gift Shop on the corner. I spent many pennies there . . .

Paul, a Cape Ann neophyte like myself would never be so bold as to correct you, even if I knew you were wrong, I’d leave it to someone else to do.

I don’t care what the name is. All I know is that it is a neat little place.
