Patti Keenan- Proud New Owner of the Latest Art Rock!

Patty Writes-

Dear Mr. Frontiero, aka "Paulie Walnuts"

I found the rock at the paint factory today at 2:15 pm.  I’m still in shock.  I never thought it would still be there at this hour. I have tried so many times and end up looking at an empty hole in the ground.  I can’t express to you how happy you made today.   And bless you for not making me climb that fence.  Nobody needs to see that. I feel like a know you from GMG.  All of you cub reporters are  just great.  Informative, Funny, Historical, and Creative.  You all make me feel incredibly inadequate, but in a good way.  Please do not stop participating on that site.  You are an important and necessary ingredient in that recipe.  I enjoy  looking forward to it every day, You are so talented and I appreciate your gift of art combined with  treasure hunting so much.  I feel like I am part of a very elite group now.  Thank You for taking the time to do the art rocks, and the video with the ringleader, Joey.  I truly have a piece of Gloucester now. If there is ever anything I can do for you, please just ask.

So Very Sincerely, Patti Keenan

Low Tide Sandbar Stollers

Photos by E.J. Lefavour

I’m sure other people observed the exceptionally low and high tides we had this week around the full moon.  On Friday, when the weather was so balmy and the tide so low, the sandbar was exposed from Wingaersheek Beach out into the bay and many people and homies enjoyed it.   The last one almost looks like he’s walking on the water.

Alchemy News

image

Dear Joey,

There’s nothing that says "weekend" like a relaxing brunch. The only thing better is if someone else cooks it! At Alchemy we are cooking up a savory brunch that can be enjoyed while relaxing on our couches and armchairs while reading the paper or listening to bluegrass music. In fact our Bluegrass Sunday brunch has become so popular that we’ve added a Saturday Celtic brunch 11-2. We think we have the best tasting brunch around, we know we have the best sounding one.  … and we have a full bar license and no lines!  Brunch starts at 10:30, the music goes on at 11.

Lots of people are calling themselves "foodies" these days. Lots of people think they have to go to Boston for serious culinary adventure. Not anymore. Check out our monthly "Foodie Nights."

We hope to see you soon,

Matt

An invitation from Alchemy’s owner, Mark McDonough…

Foodie Nights at Alchemy

Have you ever wished for a monthly dinner party where our local foodies pull out all the stops for a fabulous night of food and drink? I have. My chefs have. Every now and then they need to spread their culinary wings and create food beyond the standard fare – even if it is as wonderful as Alchemy fare.

So we’re going to start our own foodie dinner party on the first Monday of every month in the back room of Alchemy. We’ll create a five course tasting menu with about seven different wine and beer pairings. It’s a tasting dinner so three of the courses will have three items each – three apps, three entrees and three desserts.

We did a test run of this tasting dinner for the North Shore food bloggers in January. Here are their glowing reports:

From GDT columnist Heather Atwood

From NorthShoreDish.com

From Gringo Chapin

From LighterandLocal.com

The cost is $50 for the dinner and $3 for each beverage you choose from our flight of mini-glasses chosen to pair with each course.  This is truly a "first come, first served" event. The first 14 people to secure a $50 prepaid reservation will have a spot at the table.

To make your reservation for Mar 7 at 6PM, please call Alchemy 978-281-3997 and indicate if you want to be seated at the family style table or the individual servings table.  We’ll do our best to accommodate your preference.

Please send this on to all your foodie friends. We need your help to create a monthly dinner party for North Shore foodies.

Homeless Ruth Is DTF!!!!

image

The last time we caught up with Homeless Ruth she took us on a carriage ride through the beautiful streets of Rockport MA.

We met when hungry Ruth wandered in from the street to chow down and participate in the Rogue Burger Challenge at Passports two years ago.  Ruth stood toe to toe with Ed Collard and Big Lar in the second leg of the GMG Man vs Food Series at Passports but wasn’t up to the task of bringing down the big boys.   Wanting to vindicate herself, she has thrown her hat into the ring and will be (as of this writing) the sole female contestant for the Farm Bar and Grille DTF Burger Challenge.

I’m very excited to have Ruth participate.  Do not let her small frame fool you- she put away 3/4 of the competition in the Rogue Burger Challenge- She’s a competitor!

HOMELESS RUTH-DTF!

Hope to see you there!!!!!!

Neshama Carlebach To Play The Liu

Good morning Joey,

Your website is fantastic!  And easy to get around on.  I have only been here around 47 years so far, served on the Gloucester City Council back in the 70’s,

etc.  My name is Willy Greenbaum.

I am hoping you can post this music announcement.  The Jewish Temple that burned down on Middle Street when the Lorraine Apartments burned, in late 2007 is putting up a new building and to celebrate the construction the Temple is sponsoring an ecumenical concert on March 12 at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport.  It stars a nationally know Jewish female singer, Neshama Carlebach, her band, and members of the Green Pastures Baptist Choir from New York.

Should be a great night of music.  Here is an announcement for it, with a photo of Neshama.

Community Event Announcement: Neshama Carlebach Concert – March 12 in

Rockport.

Temple Ahavat Achim in Gloucester is celebrating construction of its new building with a March 12 ecumenical concert starring Neshama Carlebach and members of the Green Pastures Baptist Choir of New York. The Temple’s historic synagogue was destroyed by fire in December 2007.

The concert will be at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, Mass. It will begin at 8 and is open to the general public. Sponsor tickets, including preferred seating and a reception with Neshama Carlebach are $100. Regular tickets are $50.

For more information or tickets go to www.rockportmusic.org or phone 978-546 –7391.

Neshama Carlebach, daughter of the famous “singing rabbi”, Shlomo Carlebach, is one of the superstars of contemporary Jewish music, but unlike her father, her repertoire goes well beyond Jewish music and Jewish audiences.

Rebecca Reynolds Seal Pics

Hey, Joey!
Thought you and our neighbors might be interested in pictures of a seal that came to Montgomery’s Cove to bask in the sun today.
I’d never witnessed this before, but David Montgomery said that they’ve been here in the past, lying around on the ice for hours.
It was incredible to watch this seal move across the ice – it didn’t seem to expend any more energy than absolutely necessary.
Does anyone know this seal and does this one have a name already?
😀

Bananas vintage thrift shop, main street, Gloucester

Spring is in the air.  If you’re tired of the drab winter colors and want to switch to something bright, colorful and springy without having to unpack your warm weather things, stop in to Bananas at 78 Main Street, Gloucester.  I love thrift shops, and Bananas is really eclectic and fun, with great prices and a huge selection of clothing, funky jewelry, shoes, feather boas (a must have), hats and more.  Even if you’re not in the market to buy, or don’t wear second hand (heaven forbid), stop in just for the experience; it will make you smile.

Things To Do- The Wish Ball March 12th

WISHpostcard

Danvers, Mass. (February X, 2011) – Of the nearly 24 million Americans that have diabetes,  as many as 3 million Americans have type I diabetes, which usually strikes children and young adults. In fact, a staggering 40 children every day are diagnosed with the disease.  Wylinn’s Wish for a Cure is hoping to reduce these numbers by raising funds at the Wish Ball, an evening of dinner and dancing, to be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the Danversport Yacht Club in Danvers, Massachusetts.
Wylinn’s Wish for a Cure was founded by Terry Palmisano of Gloucester as a way to help find a cure in honor of her granddaughter Wylinn who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2008, just before turning four years-old.  Palmisano, encouraged by her team’s fundraising success at a Walk to Cure Diabetes event in Boston, came up with the idea of selling special “Wylinn’s Wish for a Cure” grocery/tote bags at local stores, including Goodies Ice Cream in Danvers, owned by her son and daughter-in-law, Wylinn’s parents, John and Stefani Palmisano.  In addition to raising money, the bags also serve an educational purpose as tucked inside each one is a Type 1 Diabetes Symptoms Sheet.
Feeling that more was needed to raise awareness and fund the research needed to find a cure, Linda Flaherty of Danvers, a friend of Terry’s, decided they could do more.  “Everyone has been touched by diabetes and we really wanted to do something about it,” said Terry Palmisano.  Encouraged by the support of colleagues and friends, now known as the Friends of Wylinn’s Wish for a Cure, they decided that they could increase awareness, raise the most money, and brighten an otherwise dreary month by hosting a gala event.
The Wish Ball, an elegant, “Black Tie Optional” gala, sponsored by the Friends of Wylinn’s Wish for a Cure will be held at the Danversport Yacht Club on Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 6:00pm – midnight.  World class entertainment to be provided by the World Premier Band.  Tickets are $75 each.  Proceeds will support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the leader in diabetes research worldwide  and consistently ranked among the best-managed charitable organizations.
In addition to ticket sales, organizers are looking for sponsors for the event as well as donations of raffle items.  Ads are also available in the Wish Ball program book.  To purchase tickets or make a donation, please contact Linda Flaherty at (978) 808-5233 or wishballcomm@aol.com.
