Only 13 Days Until Santa Arrives in Rockport

Santa arrives by lobster boat in Rockport Harbor on Saturday, December 4th this year. Jolly old Saint Nicholas has been very punctual the past few years keeping to his promise of rounding the jetty at 3:45 PM preceded by the harbormasters with sirens and flashers making way for the jolly large red suited dude.

I have been covering this story for GMG now for three years and if past movements of the rotund one follow past protocol he will land on Bradley Wharf (Motif #1), then make his way to the fire engine for a ride down Bearskin Neck before disembarking to light the Rockport Christmas Tree in Dock Square. Good viewing of the landing can be found around the harbor including the Tuna Wharf. Elves will be handing out hot chocolate and cookies in the square to children of all ages who have been nice and not naughty and Santa will lead the crowd in the singing of some Christmas tunes. Rumor has it that the Cape Ann Jazz Band will also be strolling about the downtown area. They may be able to score some hot chocolate too if they behave.

Take a Hike!

Stoney Cove, on 128 near exit 13, is a place that I always thought of as just a pier for fishing folks, but it’s actually a 53-acre nice walk along the river and through a mature woodland. Here’s a glimpse from an overcast day last weekend:

The first illegal immigrants!

The real story of thanksgiving.

Think about it!

Watch the whole video you lazy Americans. These guys did a great job!

Blast from the past!

One of Gloucester’s most popular bands of the mid 60’s, The Kandymen,  just returned from a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas aboard Carnival’s ship “Sensation” where they performed a concert. It was such a thrill to be with the boys again, performing all those great songs of the 60’s and reminiscing about the “good ‘ol days”!

North Shore Jazz Project One Year Anniversary Party At Chianti

Caroline Forrester writes-

Good evening! I wanted to share with you a musical video from the North Shore Jazz Project as we celebrated our 1st anniversary at Chianti’s in Beverly.

Last Sunday, we had an anniversary show featuring Gid Loring, Dave Sag, Mark Earley (Roomful of Blues), Dave Mattacks, Frank Hadley, John Hicks. We had some incredible musicians sit in: including our youngest player Brian King, a 16 year old trumpet player who is a junior at Masconomet. He knocked everyone’s socks off.

Please take a moment to watch the above video that Henry Ferrini produced. It is only 7 minutes long- — and if you need to skip ahead- go to 5.23 to see Brian King. Gid Loring is 83 and so great to watch– to see him exchange notes with 16 yr old Brian- this IS what the North Shore Jazz Project is all about.

We are at www.northshorejazzproject.org with many events coming up. We have an educational clinic- free- at Chiantis in December. Danny Harrington- saxophonist extraordinaire, Berklee Professor and board member will be running that program.

We are so appreciative of any attention you can bring us as our mission is to bring musical education to the forefront and give musicians an environment where performance can flourish. In one year- we have had over 10 concerts- including Joe Lovano. I hope you can come and see for yourself how dedicated we are to keeping this American tradition alive.

Hoping all is well with you and wishing you a happy and thankful thanksgiving!
