Block Party Comes to Main Street Saturday-The GDT Story

This from The Gloucester Daily Times-
“Block party comes to Main Street Saturday
By Michael Farrell
Staff Writer
Imagine yourself sitting at your favorite Main Street restaurant Saturday night. The food is delicious. The place is clean. The staff is friendly. The service is prompt. There is a distinct difference, though, from the other times that you have eaten on Main Street.”

Public Service
Last night I went to the liquor licensing board hearing for the liquor permit to serve alcohol outside during the Downtown Block Party.
On the docket and heard before the Block Party stuff was the hearing for Cape Ann Brewing Company’s pouring license.
Now putting aside whichever side of the Brew Company liquor license issue one might fall on, one thing struck me after the meeting.
I was left wondering why on god’s green earth that anyone would want to serve on a board like this. No matter what happened last night as far as the brewery was concerned there were going to be people leaving there miffed at you.
Why motivates someone to sit on the board, because I honestly don’t know.
Is it power?
Is it money? (I doubt this one)
Is it because you feel that you are doing something positive for your city?
I just don’t see why you would want to serve on that board knowing that when half of the people left, they were going to harbor bitter resentment toward you because you didn’t take their side of their case.
Thank goodness there are people that take these kinds of jobs and the responsibility that goes with the title. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to do it.

GoodMorningGloucester Gloucester Sticker
Come on down the dock to pick up your free GMG Gloucester bumper sticker. I only ask that you put it on your vehicle.

GMG fan Rob Tarr made a great suggestion yesterday-
“what do we do if we’re 1,000 miles away?
I guess I could someone stop by, get one, and send it to me.
You should encourage out-of-town readers to send pics of your bumper sticker at faraway places.”
As long as supplies last if any GMG folks want a bumper sticker but can’t drop down the dock, just send a self addressed and stamped envelope longer then 7 and a half inches and I’ll drop one in the mail for you.
Send the self addressed and stamped envelope to the dock at 95 East Main St Gloucester Ma 01930 care of Joey (put my name in big letters to make sure it gets to me)
Then it would be cool as hell if you could send pics with the Gloucester GoodMorningGloucester sticker on your vehicle in cool places and I’ll post them here on the blog. Also I’d love if folks would send in pics of themselves standing next to their car proudly donning a GMG Gloucester Bumper Sticker so I could post em here.
Thanks for the suggestion Rob!
