The Rockport Farmers Market has been setting up at the Community House in Rockport this winter as a new venture in local food, and it has been an interesting and exciting experiment so far to hold a farmers’ market every month from January all the way into the summer when the weekly market returns. The Cape Ann community supports local food producers in a big way, and the farmers’ market vendors are looking forward to seeing all of you on Saturday at the March market!
Local food patrons can pick up fresh greens and locally-raised meats from Arrowhead Family Farm, First Light Farm and Rockport’s own Seaview Farm. Plus, there will be loads of other foods from local producers: smoked fish from Sasquatch Smokehouse, locally-roasted direct trade coffee from Valverde Coffee, dried fruits from All-Fruit, soups from The Soup Guy, granola and more from The Yellow Plum, fresh baked goods from Cake Ann, pickles from Ma & Pa’s Pickles, and dahlia tubers from Roving Radish and much more!!!
At Saturday’s Rockport Winter Farmers Market (March 19th from 9am to 1pm at the Rockport Community House), patrons who spend $50 or more will receive a Rockport Farmers Market tote: a high-quality screenprinted reversible fabric bag with inside pocket – perfect for carrying all your delicious farmers’ market goods.
Pick up a “farmers’ market patron” card at the Rockport Exchange booth at the market and vendors will check off each $10 increment you spend. If you spend $50 at tomorrow’s market, simply present your card back at the Rockport Exchange booth for redemption at the end of your Rockport Farmers Market visit.
Enjoy fresh, local food and support the work of local food producers, PLUS get a handy tote in the process: a winning situation!

The people who put together the 2nd Annual Rockport Fireworks don’t mess around — they have created a huge show for everyone this Saturday night as part of what the organizers call Illumination Weekend. Shops, galleries, restaurants are participating by illuminating their businesses with lanterns in honor of what promises to be the biggest fireworks display north of the Charles River. And people, Rockport is going to be humming this weekend. We have Lobsterfest, the Acoustic Music Fest, the Rockport Farmers Market Ice Cream Social. On and on it goes…. Here’s the breakdown:
This Week’s Rockport Farmers Market Vendors: Wally’s Bistro, Fudge Everything, Maitland Mountain Farm, First Light Farm, Seaview Farm, Sasquatch Smokehouse, Heath’s Tea Room, Sullivan’s Sugarhouse, Cuz It’s Good!, Twin Lights, West River Creamery, the Vermont Candy Dish, That Nutty Redhead, Vintage Greens, Sea Biscuit Fine Baked Goods, Trupiano’s Sausage.

The Rockport Farmers Market takes place, rain or shine. And be sure to stop by our Ice Cream Social this week! Rockport is kicking into summer this weekend with the Rockport Garden Club Tour, which starts on Friday June 20th. It’s a walking tour this year, which is cool because well, you can walk from garden to garden. Just imagine, instead of getting into your car between gardens on the tour, you can stroll at a leisurely pace, enjoying the hidden botanical gems of Rockport. No more fumbling with your keys, no more peering from the map in your hand back to the windshield as you try to find the next location, no more nearly side-swiping some unsuspecting tourist or one of your fellow Garden Club members in your desperate attempt to find a parking space. The Garden Tours are always wonderful, but this one might just be the most relaxing and inspiring one yet — you don’t want to miss it. Tickets are available at Toad Hall Bookstore now through the dates of the tour, and on the dates of the tour (June 20th and 21st) at Harvey Park under the Rockport Garden Club tent.
Spiran Hall is hosting their annual Scandinavian Mid-Summer Fest this Saturday, June 21st, also in Harvey Park at the corner of Pleasant Street and Broadway. The Mid-Summer Fest features all sorts of good clean Nordic fun: pickled fish, strawberries and cream and nisu bread for starters. Folk dancers and singers will be on hand and a maypole will be set up for a little ceremonial welcome to summer. And if summer ever deserved a welcome, it is this year. Glad Midsomer! as they say.
Finally, the ROCKPORT FARMERS MARKET is back! This is all-caps, because I’m excited. Fresh food made, grown or produced by hard-working folks in cooperation with the earth. Rockport may not have a grocery store, but we have our sweet little Farmers Market, so that’s a good start. And since the market falls on a Saturday, it’s a great complement to the Thurday Cape Ann Farmers Market. Patrons can go to both each week and stuff themselves with good stuff. Fresh food all the time, that’s our motto on Cape Ann. Well, not really, but it’s not a bad idea. The Rockport Farmers Market vendors will offer fresh produce, small-batch salsa, hummus and guacamole, baked goods, coffee, maple syrup, eggs, and more and more.
See you in downtown Rockport on Saturday, June 21st for some good food, beautiful gardens and Scandinavian rituals!
The Rockport Farmers Market always provides fresh surprises. Artist Leslie Wind has stopped by a few times and done a little spinning of wool and on-the-spot knitting, which has been a great complement to all the handmade and small-batch food at the market.
More great vendors are on for this coming week, the first week in August. Pick up a little something for your weekend, whether you’re hanging out at home or headed out to the boat or the beach. The Rockport Farmers Market offers everything from lettuce to grass-fed beef to apple slaw to fresh pasta to pickles to….you get the idea!

Exciting times coming up this Saturday! We have the Cape Ann Waldorf School joining us to offer a fun, food-related activity for kids. And we also have Alek Razdan, who is just an amazing musician, playing a set or two for market-goers. Wally’s Blackburn Bistro will be on hand with coffee to jump start your morning (or afternoon), and Sea Biscuit Bakery is back with their amazing bread and granola. And those are just a few of the amazingly delicious items on offer this week! Don’t forget to pick up fresh produce from Mike of First Light Farms. He manages to bring beautiful produce week after week, no matter the growing conditions. We’re so happy that Mike, along with our other hard-working vendor — all of whom offer delicious, high quality items — are a part of the Rockport Farmers Market!
p.s. After selling out the first week they went on sale, reusable Rockport Farmers Market totes are back! Pick up yours this weekend at the market and fill it with good things to eat…

Some photos from the Rockport Farmers Market, held on Saturdays from
9am-1pm at Harvey Park, Rockport.
Enjoy!
Angela Cook submits these photos from the Rockport Farmer’s Market-
An actual Butternut Crunch Doughnut and Nisu Bread from Brothers’ Brew Coffee Shop Rockport. The Butternut was still warm. BB has to start cranking more of these puppies out. They run out by 9AM most mornings but if you go here Saturday early you can nail one.
Mann’s Cherry Pie from Mann Orchards in Methuen. Looked too good to pass up.
Two Bell Jars of Ma’s Tomato Marmalade, one hot, one sweet. Taste test said these were going in the basket. 2 Cross Street Gloucester. This place also had some awesome pickles and told us where to get fresh turmeric to make our own.
Sasquatch Smokehouse Smoked Mussels. Holy Cow, taste test said these had to go and next Saturday the smoked Cod will have to go too. 44 Whittemore Street Gloucester.
Porterhouse Steak from Seaview Farm 38 South Street. I’ll get back to you on the taste test but local grass fed beef? A big Rubber Thumbs up. [added edit] Wow, the porterhouse was cooked perfectly by Chef Ted (son) and was very tasty.
What we did not get: Twinlights Soda. Missed it. Fresh made pasta: we were going to circle back but forgot. That’s OK. This is going to be a Saturday 9AM (parking available then) ritual during the summer. And I will hunt some of these places down in the near future.
Generally speaking, I’m not a conspiracy theorist. But now that we know the N.S.A. is reading our emails and listening to our phone calls, I’ve begun to look at things with a slightly more suspicious eye.
So when I go to the gimmesound live music listings for Cape Ann tomorrow and notice that the first 2 shows are both in Rockport — and both Free, it’s got me wondering, “Just what’s going on here?” They’ve got David Coffin at Shalin Liu at 1o am. And they’re not really pushing that show either. It’s buried on a page featuring a number of community concerts and events. To look at it you’d think Rockport Music was giving back to the community — being a good citizen.
But then I see the Rockport Farmer’s Market has local rock star Brad Byrd performing at 11:30. Now what’s that all about? What’s an award-winning indie rock star like Brad Byrd doing at a farmer’s market? You’re probably gonna say it’s because he’s from Rockport and he likes to give back to the community. But wait. Don’t you see a pattern here? Do see what I’m seeing?
Under the guise of appearing like good citizens, the “good people” of Rockport are really up to no good. They’re trying to steal the crowds away from Fiesta. They want you in Rockport early and think they’re gonna keep you all day so you can see Bob Allison on the Grand Piano at the Emerson at 6pm — also free . Don’t be fooled. It’s Fiesta. You live in Gloucester. Know what I mean?
