The people who put together the 2nd Annual Rockport Fireworks don’t mess around — they have created a huge show for everyone this Saturday night as part of what the organizers call Illumination Weekend. Shops, galleries, restaurants are participating by illuminating their businesses with lanterns in honor of what promises to be the biggest fireworks display north of the Charles River. And people, Rockport is going to be humming this weekend. We have Lobsterfest, the Acoustic Music Fest, the Rockport Farmers Market Ice Cream Social. On and on it goes…. Here’s the breakdown:
This Week’s Rockport Farmers Market Vendors: Wally’s Bistro, Fudge Everything, Maitland Mountain Farm, First Light Farm, Seaview Farm, Sasquatch Smokehouse, Heath’s Tea Room, Sullivan’s Sugarhouse, Cuz It’s Good!, Twin Lights, West River Creamery, the Vermont Candy Dish, That Nutty Redhead, Vintage Greens, Sea Biscuit Fine Baked Goods, Trupiano’s Sausage.
Our vendors offer meat, eggs, smoked fish, cheese, lots of produce, pickles, sauces (sweet and savory), salsas, cookies, whoopie pies, breads, nuts = truly enough for a week’s worth of delicious, amazing, locally-produced food!
Music & More: We’ll have music from the talented Steve Lacey this week and don’t miss the home growers section of the Farmers’ Market is packed with a small amount of good things: Anadama bread from Sten af Klinteberg, honey from apiarist and cookbook author Melissa Abbott, the beautiful Northern Italian-style pesto from Mercedes Flavin and flower petal jams from local grower Jessie.
The Rockport Farmers Market takes place, rain or shine. And be sure to stop by our Ice Cream Social this week! A huge thank you to The Ice Cream Store for providing the ice cream, and to Fudge Everything and Twin Lights for providing delicious chocolate topping and soda for Old Fashioned Ice Cream Sodas! Ginger Ale, Root Beer and Orange soda will all be available.
PARKING NEWS The Rockport Farmers Market, with the permission of the Rockport Police Dept., has four spaces available on High Street for short-term farmers’ market parking every Saturday from 9am to 1pm. If you’re in a hurry and need some produce, you can park right next to the market for a few minutes while you dash through the market!
Live music starts at 6 tonight, 11 AM tomorrow & Sunday. You can’t get to every show so here’s the schedule to help you choose.
Tonight you can catch an unusual lineup of top musical talent in one intimate venue that you don’t see every day: Allen Estes has been quietly assembling a band of all-stars, including the great David Brown, Dave Mattacks and Wolf Ginandes to plug in and rock. Wait, you might say. Isn’t Allen Estes, folk, country or americana? Sometimes. But when he’s with these guys and their plugged in they ROCK! And that’s precisely what they’ll do at Minglewood Tavern tonight starting about 9. Check them out!
Tomorrow, start off at the Blues Fest (weather will clear by morning). Then take the party to town at any of a dozen venues at night (see here). Get up Sunday by 11 and check out the Rockport Acoustic Music Fest.
David Cutler, Rockport’s acoustic music impresario (yes, I used that word), has been putting together this event for 33 years! While it’s usually held in Rockport’s beautiful Millbrook Meadow, this year the event is being held at the Rockport Legion Band’s bandstand on Back Beach. This is a great time to hang out in lovely Rockport and hear some good local music while enjoying food from Claire Franklin of New Year’s Rockport Eve. For more on that, read on. Here’s a letter from Claire, who is coming off of a really tough year and is looking for volunteers for the weekend. Claire puts on a huge event, Rockport New Year’s Eve, every single year (this weekend’s food tent sales serve as a fundraiser for the New Year’s Eve event). It is a major effort and everyone loves this event, so if you can help her out that would be great. We’re going to be in Maine this weekend and will miss all the action, but I wish I could be there alongside Claire. Everyone at the Acoustic Music Festival is in happy mood, listening to music while eating Claire’s hot dogs, hamburgers and more, so working in the food booth is a great way to be part of the event. Hello Everyone,
As most of you know, I lost my husband to lung cancer last January right after New Year’s Eve. It has been a long road back to once again try to do the things I always have done in the past without him along side me. Starting with this coming weekend’s Rockport’s 33rd Annual Rockport Acoustic Music Festival. Each summer New Year’s Rockport Eve supplies the Food Tent for the festival. We are again this year!
New Year’s Rockport Eve is looking for volunteers to help serve & cook on Sunday, August 12th from noon to 6pm. Also, I would love a few helpers to set up from 10am – 12 noon and clean up from 6 – 7 pm. This event has moved from Millbrook Meadow to the Legion at Back Beach this year.
Every fundraiser that I put on throughout the year requires that I beg people to help me. I love putting on the New Year’s Eve program for the town of Rockport, but the begging for help is getting a bit harder. Please come forward to volunteer to benefit such a wonderful event that I would love to continue year after year. It takes about $34,000.00 to put on this event and button sales does not support this. Fund raising is a must! If you can just do one hour, I will take it or two or three. Just answer this email and volunteer and please pass this on to everyone on your email list.
I am always looking for Baked goods to sell, also. Brownies, cookies etc. that can be bagged and sold for 50 cents.
