Kent Circle Christmas Tree photos from Anthony Marks
Hi Joey
It’s that time of year. Ringo Tarr and crew set up the Kent Circle Christmas tree Friday November 15th. Ringo Tarr and Joe Novello traveled to Nova Scotia to pick up the tree.
The Santa parade a part of the tree lighting will step off about 3:00 pm Sunday December 1st from the state fish pier in Gloucester.
The parade route is Parker street to Main street to Western ave. and ends at Kent Circle for the annual Christmas tree lighting with Santa and Mrs. Clause.
Hope to see you and the girls there.
Best Anthony
Updated! Photos of Fisherman/woman Statue from Scandinavia
This just in-
Hi Joey-
I arrived home from Iceland last evening and was catching up on GMG posts when I saw that Sarah Clark had posted some great photos of other fisherman statues. She commented that she wished she had a GMG sticker when she had taken them so I must have taken this photo for her!

Hi, Joey,
Here are a fisherman and fisherman’s wife statues from Alesund, Norway. Next to them are two views of the fishermen’s statue in Reykavik, Iceland. Wish I had thought to have a Good Morning Gloucester sticker when I took these! Just thought folks in Gloucester might enjoy these.

Compass Rose Dedication Ceremony Photos
Anthony Marks submits-
On Saturday October 12,2013 a dedication ceremony was held at Maritime Gloucester 23 Harbor Loop to dedicate the beautiful Compass Rose that was installed over the summer. The Compass Rose was donated by Matthew Collins. The artist was Mark Read. They both spoke as well as Tom Balf Executive Director of Maritime Gloucester, state and city officials. A reception was held following the ceremony. Music was provided by Michael O’Leary and friends. A good time was had by all. The event was well attended.
Compass Rose at Maritime Gloucester
Hi Joey-
I wanted to let everyone know that the installation of the Compass Rose sculpture (pictured here with the Sculptor himself, Mark Read) is complete. It is located at the front of Maritime Gloucester and is a beautiful sight to behold, especially at night when it is lit!

Hello Joey,
The sand has been so low at Good Harbor Beach lately! Today I noticed that the remnants of a rock wall and pilings are now exposed. (They’re across the creek from the grassy area of the Bass Rock Beach Club.) I’ve never seen these before, and wondered if they’re part of the old second footbridge. Perhaps Fred Bodin has an archival image of this to share. The rocks are mortared, and there are two more pilings sticking up between the wall and the creek (by the people’s feet in the photo).

Adventure Takes First Sail With All Sails Up Photos From Len Burgess
Listen, you can put all that talk around town that The Schooner Adventure was Gloucester’s Big Dig to rest. You can also put to rest the talk that it could have been rebuilt five times over brand new with the money they spent by saving a little corner of the hull and rebuilding around it like they’ve done with the Bluenose up in Nova Scotia.
None of that matters now. She took her first Sail With All Sails Up Today!
A GLORIOUS DAY!
Congratulations to all those that have put in the time, effort and cheddar to make this day happen. Huge accomplishment.
Look for the Adventure to Sail In This Year’s Schooner Festival which To Me Is THE STORY of this year’s Schooner Festival (along with the first annual lobster bake on Harriett Webster Pier)

Hi Joey, I didn’t get to sail on Adventure’s great day but arrived in time for the crew’s celebration. -Len Burgess

Michael Chamness (Wings and WavesT) Blackburn Challenge Photos
Hey Joey.
Gloucester photographer, Michael Chamness (Wings and WavesT) just uploaded
some amazing photos from the Blackburn Challenge. Check these out! If you
like them, please share them with GMG followers.
These are raw, unedited photos showing the ‘true grit’ that goes into this
‘marathon’ rowing/paddling event- 20+ miles circumnavigating Cape Ann. Like
Blackburn himself, these racers are determined to reach their personal goals
with courage, determination, stamina and the support of fellow
rowers/paddles and spectators. What a great local event with participants
from near and far (one paddler flew in from Hawaii!)
The finish line offered a ‘rainbow’ of boats on Pavilion beach as rowers
celebrated after finishing to delicious BBQ from Red Bones of Somerville,
Ipswich Beer, and rockin’ music from Orville Giddings. Despite some dramatic
and threatening lightening flashes streaking against a black sky, the
weather held out so the race could finish with a flare! Looking forward to
next year’s Blackburn Challenge! For photos from Wings and Waves

Thanks Joe!
