Cape Ann Forum September 11, 2011 7-9pm- Free- Gloucester City Hall
To mark the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Cape Ann Forum is hosting Human Rights Watch’s deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa, Joe Stork, to speak on the revolutionary upheavals now sweeping the Arab world and what they mean to us. From Tunisia, Egypt and Libya to Yemen, Syria and Bahrain, young Arab men and women have risen up to challenge deeply entrenched, repressive regimes with varying degrees of success but few signs of a let-up. In August the protests spread to Israel as Jewish and Arab activists set up tent camps to call for reforms there. What does this mean for the region, and how does the death of Osama bin Laden fit in to these events?

The Infamous Fred Buck adds To The Photo Story of The Filming of “Bride 13” On Salt Island
joey – these are some of the museum photos of the "bride 13" filming on salt island. a,b,c are from the treasure chest left to the museum by gloucester high history teacher myrtle cameron. d&e are from a photo album page with about 15 snapshots of the cast and crew and assorted rubberneckers on good harbor. no idea who took the pics, but i’m delighted they did.

What the Heck is a Windlass?
I never knew what one was until I viewed this video. I always thought it was probably one of the small sails on a Schooner. You learn something new everyday.

“What’s a windlass? The students from Cape Ann TV’s After-the-Beach Video Club visited the Gloucester Schooner Adventure on Tuesday, July 12, where some of the crew from the Schooner Adventure gave the students a tour of this historic sailing vessel, which is docked at the Marine Railway on Rocky Neck in Gloucester. Watch this short clip to find out about the ship’s newly restored windlass.”
