Coyote Tips and Presentation
Here is the video from 1623 Studios of the Coyote Ecology & Behavior presentation from Dr. Jonathan Way. The presentation was held on February 27th, hosted by the Animal Advisory Committee.
This time of year coyotes will be active, so its important to protect your pets by keeping them indoors or on a leash, and never be left unsupervised.
Coyotes may be denning with small pups near your home or in the woods. They will be extra protective of their pups, so keep your dogs, even large dogs, leashed and close to you. Smaller dogs may be considered prey, while larger dogs could be considered a threat.
Coyotes are attracted to yards with bird feeders, compost, and accessible trash. Not only are some of these things easy meals for coyotes, but they also attract small rodents, which coyotes prefer to eat. You can follow this yard audit to coyote proof your yard, click Here.
We want to keep the coyotes wild, so it is important to be loud and try to scare them away. Bang pots, yell/scream, throw thing in their direction. Ask your neighbors to do the same and report anyone actively feeding them to the police.

There’s an announcement that there will be a suburban wildlife education lecture at City Hall on January 11 with the snow date of February 1 at 7 PM. Speakers will include Chief Campanello, Mayor Romeo Theken, representatives from fisheries and wildlife, and environmental police officers. The forum will focus on coyotes and other animals that we live with on Cape Ann.

A Council Order was submitted by Greg Verga and Melissa Cox on November 17 to begin the DISCUSSION regarding banning ‘checkout’ bags. After a less than warm reception at the first such discussion at the December 7 meeting of the Ordinance and Administration Committee and the email sent to all City Councilors by a bag industry lobbyist this page has been created to help spread the word.

Will someone from Wildlife please allocate some goddamned money to study the Coyotes?
Listen I don’t care if you’re one of these Coyote sympathizers who would rather see a human eaten than a coyote put down or if you are a Coyote hater who thinks that we can eradicate and remove them one by one and relocate them. -I consider both factions equally crazy on the crazy meter.
But the fact of the matter is that there’s bananaland amounts of money being spent on counting fish. I’m pretty sure we have more people counting how many fish that are being landed than we actually have fishermen fishing for fish.
So how about we carve out just a smidgen of money to track the explosion in the past 8 years of coyotes living among us. We had the coyote that had to be shot down at East Gloucester Elementary School and now this attack on Eastern Point. Every single year there are more and more of them around us.
I’m not saying that we gotta round em up and kill em or relocate them, but I wouldn’t mind some benchmarks or some studying.

Isn’t it about time we get some money together to study the coyotes and figure out what the heck is going on?

Several times this spring, coyotes made national headlines when spotted roaming the streets of New York, from Manhattan to Queens.
In recent years, a host of charismatic wild species, the coyote being only the most famous, have returned to American cities in numbers not seen for generations. Yet the official response in many areas has been, at best, disorganized, and people’s responses varied. The time has come for us to accept that these animals are here to stay, and develop a new approach to urban wildlife.
Most big American cities occupy sites that were once rich ecosystems. New York and Boston overlook dynamic river mouths. San Francisco and Seattle border vast estuaries, while large parts of Chicago, New Orleans and Washington, DC rest atop former wetlands. Even Las Vegas sprawls across a rare desert valley with reliable sources of life-giving fresh water, supplied by artesian aquifers the nearby Spring Mountains. All of these places once attracted diverse and abundant wildlife.

Hi! Here they are again this morning. All four were on the rock, in the sun, but it took too long for my phone to power on, but I was able to catch the last one crossing the rock. I’m pretty sure I know where their den is now (and they really worry me because I have a dog). I see them every day!

This is what I know about coyotes:
If there was a child attacked by a coyote the news media would blast it all over the place but you don’t hear about those incidents so that gives me a little comfort.
On the other hand if you have a pulse and can see then you have most definitely seen an uptick from no coyote sightings 10 years ago to weekly sightings today.
I understand there are people who would rather see people’s pets eaten rather than take some type of action. I just hope that the current trends of seeing them more and more during the day and seeing them more often doesn’t end up turn into something where people can’t even go for a walk.
Maybe the answer is to walk around with a tazer? “Don’t taze me bro!”

The howling in New England has returned! Since 1900, when the eastern wolf retreated into southern Ontario, our woods have not known a top predator. Since the 1940s, however, the bark and howl of the eastern coyote has resonated from pasture to mountain. Today, thousands of coyotes occupy New England, but unlike their smaller western cousin, our coyotes are part wolf, can hunt in packs to take deer, and are filling the niche of the wolf. Come learn about the natural history of this adaptable mammal and get answers to any questions or concerns you may have from an expert. How we rethink our woods as a domain to be shared will ultimately determine our success in adapting to life with this amazing predator.
Make it a day – bring a bag lunch and sign up for Tracking Predators with Bob Metcalfe in the afternoon from 12:30-4:30 pm.

I don’t know what bizarro world these bananaheads come from that are dancing on the graves of poor dead house pets that were mauled by Coyotes but at the risk of offending said bananaheads there really is no risk because who the fuck would want to hang out with these miserable commie bastards anyway?
These are the same people who don’t want to sentence mass murderers to the death penalty. It’s un-American to root for the wild animal over the lovable house pet (and I put all house pets over wild animals 100 times out of 100)
Let’s get something straight right off the bat in the pecking order of life of who you root for-
It goes in no uncertain terms-
- Humans
- House pets
- Bunny rabbits
- Squirrels
- Chipmunks
- All other wild animals excluding rats
- Lobsters
- Fish
- Insects excluding mosquitos
- Rats
- Mosquitos
This isn’t even up for debate.
You know what kind of coyote is a good coyote in your neighborhood where your pets live and your kids play? A Dead Fucking Coyote.
and if you can’t figure out the logic in that you might as well go live out in Montana or some other wild refuge location surrounded by wildlife that wants to eat your intestines for lunch with a nice bottle of Chianti.
I don’t wanna live in a society where we start putting varmint ahead of people and pets. That’s just crazy talk from people who hate people.
Give me humans over animals 100 times out of 100
Give me house pets over wildlife 100 times out of 100.
That’s What I’m saying.
