Florida visitors Sharon St Clair and husband Chuck King rolled into Gloucester about four weeks ago. By chance, they stopped into Charlie’s Place and bumped into the Merry Pranksters. This trip, made by son Zane Kesey, replicated the journey from CA to NY made by renowned author Ken Kesey (One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, starring Jack Nicholson) in 1964.
After the success of Ken Kesey’s novel “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Ken and this band of Merry Pranksters drove from The West Coast to the East in 1964. Fifty years later, on September 24, 2014, they came to Gloucester, and had breakfast at Charlie’s Place https://www.facebook.com/pages/Charlies-Place/111697215533360. My friends were there…
Sharon photographed the Furthur crew at breakfast. She and husband Chuck gave them their table for the bus crew. Ken Kesey’s son Zane sits center waving his hand. Sharon and Chuck leave tomorrow for home. I got to know what wonderful and generous people they are… and like me, they’re adventurous. Fair winds and smoothe seas, my friends forever.

Hi Joey On Friday 1/31/14 an odor of smoke in the building was reported at Charlie’s Place restaurant on Bass Ave. about 5:00 pm. The latter was put up to check the HVAC system on the roof as well as checking the building. I don’t think a cause was found. Recall was sounded soon after. Anthony Marks

Yet another joint like Mamie’s Kitchen, George’s, Fort Square Café, Willow Rest, Two Sisters, Sugar Mags, Sailor Stan’s, ect, ect. No room for mediocrity in the Gloucester MA breakfast game. We’ve got straight A Game places to choose from every day of the week.
Breakfast joints in Gloucester are bottom line, hands down the best. Toughest part about them is deciding which one to go to.
#Boom!
and for those of you wondering why I’m talking about breakfast joints and showing a Thousand Island Panini- It was 11AM when I ordered this- technically in my book – Breakfast!

Heaven, I’m In Heaven! Not all fish cakes are made alike or done right. The fish cakes at Charlie’s Place however are freakin fantastic! I love it when they have some flavor with the garlic.
MMMMMMMM *And they use Haddock, not pollock which some places try to push off in their fish cakes because it’s usually cheaper. Delish and priced right. I left a bit on my plate as I was stuffed. Go get you some!
* I know it’s not proper grammar to start a sentence with And, but that’s the way I woulda said it so that’s what I typed. Here’s another thing- I make spelling mistakes too. All the time.
