Relay for Life of Cape Ann

Relay for Life of Cape Ann Addison Gilbert Oncology nurse, Lisa Zellenka, RN, OCN, takes a break at this year’s Relay for Life of Cape Ann held last weekend to benefit the American Cancer Society.   Throughout the year, Lisa and her entire family (ages 6-66) provide fund-raising opportunities through their team "Heaven Can Wait."   Joining them were many other teams made up  of family and friends to make the Ninth Annual Relay for Life of Cape Ann another successful event.

Teams were made up of six-15 members and the Relay began at 6 p.m. at Newell Stadium located at Gloucester High School.  One member of each team remained walking the track from 6 p.m. June 17 until 9 a.m. on June 18. Following a survivors walk at 6 p.m., music, food and friendship were just part of this special evening. A luminarian ceremony took place at 9 p.m. listing all those being honored and remembered.

Cape Ann Pee Wee Football Early Sign-Ups Starting this Friday, June 3rd and 4th

Good morning Joe,

Wondering if you could possibly send out one more reminder to all the GMG followers that Pee Wee Football Teams will be holding their early sign ups starting this Friday, June 3rd and 4th and the following weekend June 10th and 11th!  Six year olds are eligible this year!  Must be 6 as of August 31st of this year.  Open to all kids ages 6-14 (no 9th graders).  We are just looking to gauge team sizes and get some of the administrative stuff out of the way early….no practice or communications will happen until August!  We appreciate your help getting the word out.  Everyone can look in the Gloucester Times for their teams time and place to sign up!

Hoping you could help me out yet again!!  In addition to being the league treasurer, I am also co-president of the Rockets who will also be having their sign ups starting this week.  Hoping you could post the following:

 

Riverdale Rockets Early Sign Ups

The Riverdale Rockets will be holding early sign ups starting this Friday June 3rd and will remain as “open enrollment” throughout the summer.  There are limited rosters spaces allowed so please sign up early.  Payment procedures are explained online!  Full payment must be made in order to play come August.  Registration is $80 per player/cheerleader with a $140 family cap.  Follow this link to our sign up page: http://www.leagueathletics.com/?org=RIVERDALEROCKETS.  NO practice, uniforms, or team communication will be allowed until August practices which start on the 15th!  More information will follow once you are registered online!  Any questions should be directed to Jim Smith at 978.265.3721.  Have a great summer and we will see you in the fall for Riverdale Rockets Football/Cheering!

Cape Ann ARA Spring Ham Radio Flea Market May 14

The Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association will hold its Spring ham radio flea market on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Lanesville Community Center, 8 Vulcan Street, Gloucester, MA. Doors open to sellers at 8 AM; doors open to buyers at 9:00 AM. Tables can be reserved in advance for $10.00, or can be purchased the day of the flea market for $15.00. To reserve a table, contact Dick Copithrone at 508-269-4941 or email at dickc911 at yahoo.com.

No computers or CRT monitors will be sold at this event. No need to worry about rain; this is an indoor event.

Talk-in will be provided on 145.130 MHz, no PL tone.

1st Annual Cape Ann Public Schools
VIDEO FESTIVAL
• All Cape Ann Students ages 6-19 are invited to participate.
• Videos will be judged in three age categories: Elementary, Middle and High Schools.
• There is no limit to the number of students participating on a video.
• Selected entries may be shown at various locations during the Gloucester Public School District Arts
Festival on Saturday May 7, 2011 at the Cape Ann Community Cinema, 21 Main Street, Gloucester.
Rules & Submission Checklist
1. An opening Title Screen and Closing Credits are required.
2. The video must run 3 – 5 minutes.
3. Please NO NEGATIVE STEREOTYPES.
4. Copyrighted material must be acknowledged in video credits
5. Record your entry on a DVD and label it with contact information.
6. Please include a typed copy of the script (if any) and list of students participating with school’s affiliation. Include the email
address, home address and phone number of one Participant in the video Project.
7. DVD submissions will not be returned but pickup may be arranged. We reserve the right to post all or portions of all
submissions on School System Web Sites, the Gloucester Education Foundation (GEF) website and videos may be shown at
various Gloucester Public School District, GEF and Cape Ann Community Cinema functions.
8. No video that portrays a minor will be publically shown without a signed release form from that minor’s parent or guardian.
9. Submit to Gloucester Education Foundation, 33 Commercial St, Third Floor, Gloucester, MA 01930.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF THE DVD IS SATURDAY APRIL 30, 2011
JUDGING CRITERIA
• STORY: Your Film should have a point, tell a story even if it’s a documentary.
• GENRE: Drama, Comedy, Documentary
• PRESENTATION: Film quality, Lighting and Sound.
• CREATIVITY: Use your imagination
• SPECIAL EFFECTS: Props, Music, Sound and FX
• EDITING: Story Telling, Transitions, Graphics Titles, Subtitles and Closing Credits.

Katherine changed the windows to a spring medley last Monday.  Richard dropped a note to find some photos of Liz for the window.  I found the pics, framed them, draped the window base in black, found some white diamonds and a horse for our Velvet Brown.

Friday, March 25, , Nate’s of Front Beach Rockport It’s open. What’s better than fluffy pancakes and a walk on the beach?

Friday April 1, The Lobster Pool of Rockport 11:30 AM Friday. You might find me on Saturday, April 2nd with my BYOB six pack and some fried scallops and fried clams at the picnic table closest to the guitar watching the boats entering Folly Cove. It might be snowing. I will still be there.

Friday, April 1, Topside Grill opens. The dining room is completely renovated but the martinis have not changed. Opening Day party with music by John Jerome. Then Tuesdays are always Oyster night. Check out the Good Morning Gloucester artwork on the walls.

Saturday, April 2, Top Dog of Rockport opens for the eleventh season. A clam roll at a picnic table outside. That is my official start of the season. Might be chilly so go for a Hot Chihuahua Dog with Chili Cheese Fries.

Thursday, April 14, Lobsta Land Restaurant opens. Even though their website says “thanks for a great season” still, the news has leaked out. Just say “Lobsta Land!” out loud. I feel better already.

Friday, April 15, Captain Carlo’s opens with Jenny Dee & the Deelinquents playing that evening. Your taxes are in. Time to celebrate.

Still looking for definitive opening dates on the following which had these for opening dates in 2010: The Rudder: April 15, The Cupboard: May 6, Popo’s Gourmet Hot Dogs, and  Surfside Subs on Thacher Road, all around April 27.

And although The Ice Cream Store of Bearskin Neck, Rockport does not have a specific opening date they get a mention because they made a Facebook Page today. Open soon. If your business starts a Facebook or a Twitter account and you keep it up to date with cool announcements you get the Joey C Star of Approval with special mention on the GMG blog. Henry Allen TheatreWorks and Cape Ann Art Haven have teamed up to offer a unique and exciting summer theatre and art camp, with workshops for ages 6-18!

The sky’s the limit on what magic can be spun out of the imaginations of young people! In our unique Summer Playcamp, students of will engage in the collaborative art of crafting then performing a short play, including the design and creation of their own sets, costumes and props! Each session will culminate in a staged performance for family and friends. These original short plays will be inspired by the folklore of Cape Ann. Playwriting and practice will take place in the TheatreWorks lab at The Cape Ann (or ‘The Annie’ to her friends), and the art classes will take place at Cape Ann Art Haven. Regstration is OPEN.
