Angela Cook To Open Oasis Rockport Gallery On Bearskin Neck

A big celebration is planned for Mother’s Day weekend. Oasis Rockport, the newest Bearskin Neck art gallery, is holding their Grand Opening. The gallery features fine art scenic photography from Angela Cook. Angela’s focus is on dramatic seascapes and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets as well as many beautiful floral, wildlife and wilderness images. When asked about her photography, Angela is quoted as saying “I enjoy sharing the beauty, emotion and simplicity of life with my images.” Angela is a local photographer who loves Cape Ann and wants to share the beauty of that with her customers. Oasis Rockport will not just offer photos. There will be regularly scheduled walking photo tours as well as outdoor portrait shoots. Angela also plans on including some beautiful semi-precious stone jewelry crafted by Sharon Lane in her gallery as well as select hand-made keepsakes designed by Suzanne Ouellette. The Grand Opening of Oasis Rockport will be held May 7th from 9am to 6pm and May 8th from 10am to 5pm. There will be giveaways, refreshments and a good time to be had by all. This new gallery is located at 65 Bearskin Neck, right next to Helmut’s Strudel and is well worth a visit. Bill Hubbard Painting of the Alice S. Wentworth

Joe,
Attachment is my painting of the Alice S. Wentworth for posting on GMG.  This is an Acrylic, Pen & Ink on 16X20 stretched canvas.  It is one of a series of paintings I am doing on historical coasting schooners.  She was built in Norwalk, CT. in 1863.  Bought by Capt. Arthur A. Stevens in early 1900s.  Completely rebuilt by Stevens and re-documented in 1905 as the A.S.Wentworth. 
Regarded as one of the fastest coasting schooners on the coast, she hauled general cargos including lumber, coal, gypsom, salt and merchandise to ports from New York to the canadian maritimes. She often loaded salt directly from the big salt steamers that called atGloucester to fish processors along the coast of Maine.
My painting depicts the Wentworth passing Thatchers I. and setting a course into the Gulf of Maine.  Loaded with salt in Gloucester and bound for Boothbay and other down east ports she has just come about and sprung her main and foresail wing-and-wing with the a dry sou’easter pushing her along.
I like to paint historic sailing ships doing what they were built to do.  I’ve just started a painting of the just re-built 130’  Sch Western Union of Key West, Florida.  She was built as a coaster in 1936 for and sailed as a Marine cable repair ship for Western Union Telegraph Company for 35 years.  She has just undergone a $1.24 million restoration and will operate out of Key West as a tour ship.
I’m currently looking for old photos of the Lanesvill and Rockport granite sloops and schooners as subject for another painting.  There are plenty of photos of Maine coasters and granits ships, but scant few of the Cape Ann boats.

The BeBop Guitars is a guitar ensemble made up of members of the faculty at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. 1st Annual Cape Ann Public Schools
VIDEO FESTIVAL
• All Cape Ann Students ages 6-19 are invited to participate.
• Videos will be judged in three age categories: Elementary, Middle and High Schools.
• There is no limit to the number of students participating on a video.
• Selected entries may be shown at various locations during the Gloucester Public School District Arts
Festival on Saturday May 7, 2011 at the Cape Ann Community Cinema, 21 Main Street, Gloucester.
Rules & Submission Checklist
1. An opening Title Screen and Closing Credits are required.
2. The video must run 3 – 5 minutes.
3. Please NO NEGATIVE STEREOTYPES.
4. Copyrighted material must be acknowledged in video credits
5. Record your entry on a DVD and label it with contact information.
6. Please include a typed copy of the script (if any) and list of students participating with school’s affiliation. Include the email
address, home address and phone number of one Participant in the video Project.
7. DVD submissions will not be returned but pickup may be arranged. We reserve the right to post all or portions of all
submissions on School System Web Sites, the Gloucester Education Foundation (GEF) website and videos may be shown at
various Gloucester Public School District, GEF and Cape Ann Community Cinema functions.
8. No video that portrays a minor will be publically shown without a signed release form from that minor’s parent or guardian.
9. Submit to Gloucester Education Foundation, 33 Commercial St, Third Floor, Gloucester, MA 01930.

I found the “Art, Rocks” at Good Harbor Beach. Nice sketch. I have to admit that I must have walked by it 2 or 3 times (I went across the street to look right after your tweet that you left one). The photo clue was what did it…I have been back and forth enough times on my first venture to have pretty much memorized the rocks along the sidewalk :-))).

Thanks for what you do, both for art and for Gloucester. You and Joey C are two of the Great Ones!
