Here are the Schooners Participating In The 2012 Gloucester Schooner Festival and Contact Info For You To Reserve Your Spot On Board For The Schooner Races!
Here’s a list I grabbed off the Chamber’s great website which lists each Schooner participating in the 2012 Gloucester Schooner Races. To Connect The Dots For You and bang the point home this is what you need to do-
Click on the highlighted link under or or above each schooner to go to the website and contact the Schooner to reserve your spot aboard. Gloucester harbor is going to be jamming back and forth with all these schooners and to be on the water it will be magical!
YOU WILL NOT REGRET BOOKING YOUR SPOT ON ONE OF THESE BOATS AND BEING PART OF THE ACTION!
I’m convinced 99% of our population outside of the schoonerheads don’t even realize that they can get aboard and race. The costs to go out for a sail is not even a rounding error on the cost of owning a boat for a year.
What, you’re still reading this? You should be on telephone with Kay Ellis or the people at The Ardelle office booking your reservation for this weekend. Hurry up will ya?

54th Annual Gloucester Sidewalk Bazaar Thank You’s From Grace Giambanco Numerosi
The 54th Annual Gloucester Sidewalk Bazaar was a success! Main Street was a hot, happening, fun filled place to be for three days!
I would like to personally thank Linda Palazola of Palazola’s Sporting Goods, Joe Ciolino of The Weathervane and Christine Orlando of Kids’ Unlimited for their continued dedication to the Gloucester Sidewalk Bazaar.
I can assure you that without the commitment of these folks the Sidewalk Bazaar would not have happen and we would have lost a Gloucester Tradition. I feel honored to have been part of the event for the last two years.
The summer is always a busy time for everyone, and we would not have been able to have such a great event if it wasn’t for the commitment of this amazing community. Gloucester should be proud.
I’d like to thank Mayor Carolyn Kirk and especially Jim Duggan who was always willing to help address any concerns, City Clerk, Linda Lowe who guided me through the new permitting process, Mark Cole and Rose LoPiccolo of the DPW- street closing and trash are always hot topics, Food Inspector Rosalie Nicastro, Deputy Chief Steve Aiello of the Gloucester Fire Department and Lieutenant Joseph Aiello of the Gloucester Police Department both are a pleasure to work with, and of course our financial sponsors: Howard Frisch, of Horvitz & Frisch, p.c., Bank Gloucester,
Cape Ann Savings Bank and Rockport National Bank.
Lastly, but definitely not least are the team of volunteers that helped keep the event running smoothly, manning the streets and providing useful information to visitors with a smile- all for the simple love of Gloucester and a bright yellow t’ shirt: Mary Howard, Fred Bodin, Janet Robbins, Kettie Maclean, Amber Rose Rallo, Marlania Rallo, Evan Dombrowski, Josie Martell, Jack Brown, Chelsea Osborn, Joanne Marks, Pat & Phil Lambert, John Orlando, Fayette Severance, Nina Ryan Sargent, Julie Titone, Chris from Harbor Goods and Melissa and Bill Cox.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! It was fun!
Sincerely,
Grace Giambanco Numerosi

Hi Joey,
Fred Bodin suggested sending you a few pictures from the 2012 Annisquam Sea Fair. We came up from the South Shore to spend the day there, and discover this charm of this little village. What a beautiful spot! Could have just spent the day down by the boats and bridge, lol, but the Fair itself was wonderful and the people so welcoming! From the books for sale, the waterdunk, white elephant table to the food–awesome crabmeat roll and onions rings – everything was just perfect small town Americana at its best! Annisquam is so beautiful, and the gardens at every turn are just breathtaking! So happy we made the trek north for this small town fair! Loved it!
Photos are 1. Annisquam Bridge 2, a great old fishing boat 3. a handsome dog I met named Max 4.the Sea Fair main area, 5 and 7 gorgeous flowers for sale and 6.the Annisquam Art gallery with the bustle of crowds in the background.
Spent the rest of the day down on Main Street, visiting some great antique and books stores. Love Gloucester!
Take Care and good luck with all that you are doing for Gloucester!
Gayle White
Hi Joey,
Here’s a few of the fair taken by Kate Conway, another South Bostonian – Fred Bodin told her to send a couple of pictures your way as well. Since Kate is in the middle of a move, she asked me to send them for her. We usually travel around in a pair – picking a new spot/ location each Saturday – spend the day taking photos, eating at one of the restaurants, and walking around the location to get the feel for it. We do a little write up at the end of the day, and that ends up on our facebook pages. We try to send on whatever photos to business owners/ restaurants etc. We will soon be turning into a blog.
The Annisquam Fair was our third trip to Gloucester – something about the place reminds us both of South Boston – the neighborhood feel, the waterfront, the people, the good restaurants, and the pride in community we have come across there. I have to say, you don’t always get that sense when you go into other communities. So, we’ll be back! Use the photos or not as you see fit. Just wanted you to know how much we love the place! Thanks, Gayle White

The West End was packed, from Jalepenos to Washington Street.
Blackburn Challenge athlete Paul Morrison and pro photographer Kathy Chapman in my gallery.
Painter Laureen Maher’s oil painting of the Good Harbor Beach concession stand and of Fly Amero, with Banana’s window in the background.
Ed Collard and Laura Jardullo rock out in the gallery later in the night (haven’t I seen them dancing in Havana in the 30’s?). Ed was instrumental in finishing the mini-keg of Heineken. It was a great Block Party, with 150+ people coming in, no food or wine left, so I’m going home!

Congrats on the BONS Award- you do a great job.

Because I love to research best of lists etc, etc, I made this list of Gloucester restaurants that also won- an admirable selection.
Italian
From pasta and meat entrees to paninis and pizzas, La Trattoria & Pizzeria of the west end in Gloucester will make you think you’ve somehow arrived in Italy. The family-run ristorante’s menu is filled with delicious, home-cooked, Sicilian-style dishes. Come hungry, because the portions are huge. Molto bene! La Trattoria & Pizzeria, 64 Main St., Gloucester, 978-281-0790,

Lobster Roll
When it comes to lobster rolls, there tends to be two camps: those who love theirs with mayo, and those who prefer them without. We dare say the version served at the Seaport Grille at Gloucester’s Cruiseport just might unite parties on both sides of the aisle. Seaport Grill’s lobster salad is indeed tossed with a little mayo, but the condiment far from overpowers the meat. Rather, it binds together all those juicy, tender chunks of lobster and crunchy bits of celery. The whole savory mix is piled in heaping spoonfuls onto a freshly baked Virgilio roll, making for what we say is the best lobster roll around. Seaport Grille, 6 Rowe Square, Gloucester, 978-282-9799, cruiseportgloucester.com/seaportgrille
New Restaurant
With only a few months under its belt, Ohana in Gloucester is off to an impressive start. Ohana (which means “family” in Hawaiian) adds Hawaiian twists to American cuisine, and dishes are as beautiful as they are mouth-watering. With options from sashimi to ribeye, there’s something for everyone. Ohana, 151 Main St., Gloucester, 978-283-3200, ohanacapeann.com
Pizza
For years, locals have flocked to this nondescript roadside spot for a tank of gas and a bite to eat. But what really sets Willow Rest apart from the Gloucester dining scene is its homestyle brick-oven focaccia. Just one slice of the crisp, thin-crust dough topped with herbs and fresh ingredients is a bite of pizza heaven. Willow Rest, 1 Holly St., Gloucester, 978-283-2417,
willowrest.com
Pub Food
If you’re craving some bona fide pub grub, Minglewood Tavern at Latitude 43 in Gloucester is where you should head for the happiest of hours. Order a house starter from the menu, like the infamous nacho pile, Parmesan-truffle fries, or Brian’s chili con carne. Hearth-oven pizzas are also all the rage, and with six different varieties, you’ll definitely want more than one slice of each. Minglewood Tavern at Latitude 43, 25 Rogers St., Gloucester, 978-281-0223, minglewoodtavern.com
Tapas
For the best tapas in town, Gloucester’s Alchemy Cafe and Bistro can’t be beat. The cozy, romantic bistro offers exquisite dining at affordable prices. Try a small plate for yourself or split a sampler plate with a friend. Our fave, the antipasto platter, comes with olive tapenade, grilled vegetables, seasonal fruit, assorted cheeses, arugula and tomato salad, and warm chips. It’s sure to whet your appetite for more. Alchemy Cafe and Bistro, 3 Duncan St., Gloucester, 978-281-3997, alchemybistro.com
Sushi
There’s a reason that Latitude 43 Restaurant and Bar in Gloucester is back for the second year in a row as the top pick for the best sushi on the North Shore: It’s the freshest and best we’ve found. For a well-rounded sampler of the restaurant’s standout sushi, opt for the Lat 43 Sushi Boat—a feast of California rolls, spicy salmon press box sushi, nigiri, and sashimi. Throughout the sushi menu, unique touches— think mango, microgreens, and wasabi goat cheese—put welcome spins on tried-and-true favorites (but there are plenty of those, too). Latitude 43 Restaurant and Bar, 25 Rogers St., Gloucester, 978-281-0223, latfortythree.com
Seafood
Though not octane posh, The Causeway in Gloucester is the place to be if divine seafood is your goal. Favorites like fried calamari, steamed mussels, and clam chowder are served alongside some dishes with interesting twists, like baked coconut-rum haddock. Crowds here are nothing out of the norm, but once seated, you’ll agree your meal was worth the wait. The Causeway Restaurant, 78 Essex Ave, Gloucester, 978-281-5256
Cape Ann Brewing wins in the PLAY category
Brewery
There’s nothing like a lively pub and a frothy beer after a long day, and Cape Ann Brewing Co.in Gloucester is where we love to go. The brewery, which moved to a new location on Front Street last year and now boasts its own Fisherman’s selection, featuring ales, IPAs, and stouts, among others. Using two-row Barley imported from Europe, the brew crew concocts some of the most memorable flavors on the North Shore. 2012 Reid’s Ride Photos From Tina Ketchopolos
Joey: Here are some photos from Reid’s Ride in memory of Reid Sacco that took place yesterday from Lynnfield ending at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester.
Reid’s parents Gene and Lorraine Sacco of Lynnfield began this event in memory of their son Reid R. Sacco. They are an incredible parents with lots of support from wonderful family members and friends.
The ride is a 28-mile Bike-a-thon , a fun and rewarding way to support clinical and scientific research into finding more treatments — and someday a cure — for the cancers that predominantly strike adolescents and young adults. Cyclists of all ages and abilities pedal their way from Lynnfield to Cape Ann in what is the primary fund-raising event for the Reid Sacco Memorial Foundation. The event registration fees, sponsorships and donations benefit the Reid Sacco Memorial Cancer Research Fund, and this fund supports clinical and research programs in the area of young adult cancers. The Foundation’s mission is to improve the outlook for this population of cancer patients, a population that has been tragically underserved by recent advances in cancer treatment.
Sacco was born July 24, 1984, which is intentionally close to the ride date. Sacco’s goal was to ride in a bike-a-thon to prevent young adult cancer, but cancer took his life before he achieved that desire. He died June 16, 2005 at the age of 20. Reid was enrolled at Columbia University to study Chemical Engineering
In late June 2012, the Reid R. Sacco AYA Program at Tufts Medical Center was announced – the program includes the establishment this summer of the Reid R. Sacco Adolescent & Young Adults Clinic for Cancer and Blood Diseases, as well as the establishment of the Reid R. Sacco AYA Fund to support educational initiatives at Tufts. This extraordinary achievement was made possible by your participation in Reid’s Ride over the years.
This year’s Reid Rice raised over $100,000. with donations still coming in!
