I’m a sucker for ricotta on my pizza…or on anything else for that matter. We ordered a pizza from Mike’s Place in Gloucester the other night and it was unbelievable. I’ve been jonesing for some sweet sauce pizza since one of GMG’s podcasts months ago that discussed a theory on favorite pizzas and it was finally my turn to pick the pizza. So ridiculously yummy…
Melenzane Breaded eggplant, caramelized onions, ricotta and mozzarella with Mike’s favorite-sweet pizza sauce
This recipe was created several years ago to use up an abundance of carrots from my farm share at Applenton Farms. It has become a recipe I make through out the year. A jar of Carrot Cake Marmalade make a great hostess gift, and easy appetizer to assemble and serve to unexpected company! Visit Laura at The Cave on Main Street today open 9-5 for this yummy Chevre Cheese shown in the photo below.
If you don’t get your mom an M S Foley Stoneworks sculpture or kitchen item, she is gonna be rip-roarin, foot-stamping, pan throwing, rolling pin wielding pissed off. Special Saturday hours this week. Call between 9 & 5. Items from $20 on up. Put a smile on mom’s face! (Or you may live to regret it.) http://www.msfoleystoneworks.com/
The fishing fleet is tied up in Harbor Cove about 1930, between Downtown and The Fort. The Gloucester Oil Supply Company is nearby, and a notation on the negative envelope refers to the Schooner Mayflower in the photo. Can you find it?

Nino Cannova and his F/V Christina Eleni in Gloucester Harbor. Nino, originally from Sicily, has been fishing his whole life. He lands multi-species including Cod, Haddock, Monkfish, Skate and Flounder, going out for 2-3 days at a time.
For those of you who have been anxiously waiting for the race boat launch, you will have the opportunity to help out tomorrow morning. We will be meeting at Eastern Ave Self Storage in Gloucester at 8:30 AM tomorrow Saturday May 10th to load up the freshly painted race dories, then trailer them to the High School landing. This process shouldn’t take long, but we need bodies to load and unload as well as trailers to tow. Please respond if you can help! Looking forward to a great rowing/racing season.

A native of Guadalajara, Mexico, Barragan first studied engineering but moved toward architecture after coming under the influence of the French-German writer Ferdinand Bac and Le Corbusier. Best known for his modernist work of simple shapes expressed in bright colors, Barragan rejected functionalism for what he called “emotional architecture.” He was the second person to be awarded the Pritzker Prize (1980). His house and studio in Mexico City are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It was moving so fast through the reeds and then dove under, so I couldn’t get a great shot of it. It could have been a beaver, or it could be the Niles Pond variety of the Loch Ness monster.
