Dave says,

Well, I’m sitting around the house waiting for the snow to stop and my codpiece to dry, with Weal Of Fortune oozing out of my Elsie D. screen (no sound) and three martinis under my Kuyper belt, biting my toenails and begging for a break.
Rheumer has it that there’s another storm coming on Thursday, but I’m willing to shake my shaman rattle and toss the dicey bones on another outcome: The arrival of Ms. Diane Blue to our stage.  OMG, it’s been a while since Miss D., the Octomom® of the blues has been in these parts, and I’m so glad to have her back. Not only that, but she’s bringing along a killer band with some new people to tintinnabulate your eardrums with the latest ghastly sounds.
Firstly, there’s Bobby Gus, a veritable Boston mainstay, on catarrh. First time. Add Joe Bargar, one of my heroes, on keys. Then trip over Mr. Steve Bankuti, who never heard of me, on eggbeaters. First time, too. I’ve been dying to meet and play with these people. I need the thirty bucks. But, seriously, folks, I’m expecting to have a rousing good time waffling through the entire blue spectrum. C’mon out and dance!

Would You or Wouldn’t You?

Oh, God, No.

Look, I LOVE oysters.  I really do.

The more horseradish sauce the better.

I happily ate probably no fewer than 20 last weekend in New Orleans and it is a given that I look forward to eating them up each and every time I step foot in Halibut Point.  Key West to me screams “Raw Bar” and Nantucket means oysters at “CRU”.

So, last night was no different.

I happily met one of my best friends in the whole entire world….ordered from one of the best bartenders in the whole entire world (that’s right, Jack), and chatted with the one and only Heather…who has made it into 2 blog posts in a row….not that that is any claim to fame 😉

We ordered a dozen Duxbury Oysters and THANK GOODNESS this one didn’t make it to our plate.

So, my friends, after seeing this photo, the question I ask is, “Would you or wouldn’t you be able to choke this down?”  For the record, as you can see, it is the size of the a woman’s hand.

Shop Rockport, even in the winter!

Terry Weber writes…

Shop Rockport, even in the winter!

Yesterday I was very happy to get out of the house and enjoy a day of walking, working and shopping. I went to Rockport, and although the shopping area seemed abandoned compared to summer months, upon closer inspection I found many businesses open. (See below for a partial list of businesses that are open during the winter in Rockport during the winter).

You might think there is nowhere to park, but I found parking easily as the usual tourists are not around and there weren’t many people to be found. But here’ a couple of folks I did run into…

1 traci budrow at sand castlesTraci Budrow at Sand Castles wants you to know that that everything in their store is 50% off, right now! Including these tee shirts!

2 jamie russell uncovering his shopJamie Russell himself was out shoveling his walk way and wants you to know he will be open in the days leading up to Valentine’s Day. Give him a call to confirm his hours!

3 dog wants in

This dog was determined to get into the Hula Moon Café! No owner was nearby, the folks at Hula called the police department to report a stray dog. Hope he or she made it home!

Here is a partial list of businesses open in the winter in Rockport. Always call ahead or look online for specific business hours which might be limited during the winter, especially during and after snow storms!

New Video: Henry Ferrini’s Windows Out of Gloucester

Lisa Smith writes,

Hi Kim,

I have something I hope you will post on GMG; it is a beautiful video.

Here is a video Henry Ferrini made during the great blizzard of 2015. It is called “Windows Out of Gloucester”. He captures the beauty of the snowstorm from his windows set high above Gloucester Harbor and uses Tchaikovky’s “Waltz of the Snowflakes” for the soundtrack. Note the red snowflakes-how did he do that?

Pigeon Cove Shovelers

I physically can’t shovel snow and Janet had shoveler’s fatigue. This morning, I saw three people walking up the street, all carrying shovels. We asked if they were looking for work, and they started clearing our driveway and walkways. These were, in fact, our neighbors Eva Maria (L), Heike (mother of these kids), and Levin (R). They did an outstanding job, speak German (their native language), and I asked them to come back after the next snow storm.

I caught Katherine, climbing over a snow bank after she took the shots below.
