Gloucester 1/24/2023: Yellow and gray streaked sky, roads clear, and light accumulation from yesterday’s snowfall. Despite the sunny and warming up that’s forecast, there should be enough snow when school lets out suitable for building a snowman and slow sledding!

White out walk. Strong winds on the coast are keeping the snow inches down, and everywhere swaths of bare ground alternate with drifts ankle high to mid thigh. Snow walls are building at intersections as the busy plows stay ahead of this heavy winter battering.
Answer below break.

Wind across sand and street feels like this (5 sec clips)
Sanderlings, winter shorebirds, stand their ground feeding in fierce winds (20 sec)
Birds are tinier than the seaweed gusting past.
sanderlings might be easier to spot in this one
Gloucester DPW has been by at least twice since 5am. The wind is swirling in all directions so the accumulation is blasted from surfaces.
MEMA power outages map shows about 23,000+ without power as of 8:11am
Snapshots during the snowstorm. Snow fell at a quick clip and was deeper than I expected. I saw two snow plows stuck and digging out. Today will be a heavy shovel that neighbors may need help with.

I wanted to catch the increasingly rare snow event we had yesterday before the light went in Bay View:
The morning after the beautiful snowfall (I hope it isn’t the only real snow of the season!), I took several snapshots of our garden before heading over to the Harbor Walk, then ended by photographing at Niles Pond. The Harbor Walk photos are posted here, and I am just getting to the rest of the images.
The last two photos are for Sharon and Donna. Note: the waves that can be seen crashing in the distance beyond the narrow strip of land are at Brace Cove, not Good Harbor.
