Driving report cards for teenagers
I’m not that parent that wants to buy my teenager a “new car” but after looking at this article it sure is tempting!
Toby Pett sent in this link in relation to the post about teen driving last week. The new 2016 Chevy Malibu is coming out with a system that will give you a report of how your child was driving among other wicked cool features! SAY WHAT! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?

RNAC MEMBERS SHOW FEATURES PAINTINGS AND DRAWING
Gloucester MA, Mar 23, 2015— On April 2, 2015, the Cultural Center Gallery on Wonson Street in Gloucester opens the second of two RNAC member shows—a juried Spring exhibition of paintings and drawings by Rocky Neck Art Colony members. Provocatively titled “It’s Not Furniture,” the exhibition features 35 works by 23 member artists exhibiting 2D works in oil, acrylic, watercolor mixed media, encaustic, collage and color pencil. Juror Carol Pelletier, Chair of Fine Arts and Professor of Art at Endicott College, selected the work.
“It’s Not Furniture” is on view April 2-26, 2015 during gallery hours Thursday-Sunday from 12-4 PM. The public is invited to a reception for artists and friends on Sunday, April 12, 2-4 PM at the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester.
According to the exhibition organizer Martha Swanson, the slightly odd title for this painting show is meant to provoke a discussion about the function of art from both artist’s point of view and intention, to the non-utilitarian function of wall art. To express one of the myriad of reasons for collecting art, a member of the Cultural Center’s exhibition committee succinctly stated, “a painting need not match the décor.”
“It’s Not Furniture” looks at the landscape, seascape, cityscape, still-life study and more in styles ranging from realistic to abstract through the diverse styles of artists Kathleen Gerdon Archer, Kristie Bernard, Katherine Coakley, Mary D. Cole, Robin Colodzin, Maura Cronin, Terry DelPercio-Piemonte, Loren Doucette, Gail Gang, Leslie Heffron, Michele Kenna, Kat Masella, Mary Rhinelander McCarl, Sinikka Nogelo, Gerry O’Leary, Sue Ann Pearson, Regina Piantedosi, Ronald Pruett, Deb Schradieck, Lully Schwartz, Kate Somers, Anna Vojtech, and Rokhaya Waring.

The Gloucester Clam’s Jim Dowd EP Lit House Event at Duckworth’s
Last night Jim Dowd led a fascinating discussion on Neal Stephenson’s book Snow Crash, considered to be one of the best in the cyberpunk subgenre of science fiction writing.
Lawrence Penson, editor of Nova Express describes cyberpunk, “Classic cyberpunk characters were marginalized, alienated loners who lived on the edge of society in generally dystopic futures where daily life was impacted by rapid technological change, an ubiquitous datasphere of computerized information, and invasive modification of the human body.”
Stevens Brosnihan explains how to use Oculus Rift, a virtual reality head-mounted display, on loan from Ocean’s Alliance. Read more about Oculus Rift at The Gloucester Clam here.

Master Plan for our Meadow and Pond
JOHN SPARKS (1941-2014)
We will miss John Sparks….
Join our Conservancy!
Generation after generation, our Millbrook Meadow and Pond have given this community respite and solace from the effects of hectic life …
Now it is our generation’s turn to give respite and renewed life to the meadow …
We have formed the Rockport Millbrook Meadow Conservancy to support restoration goals, and to give the Meadow and the Mill Pond new life to last another century. Please join us to preserve, protect and give life to this town’s treasure!
Master Plan takes shape. Our contractor will soon begin developing plans for actual construction of the long-awaited Restoration of Meadow and Pond.
The conceptual plan above shows the Pond, at left, with proposed boardwalk in white. Meadow is at right.
Plan calls for dredging tons of sediment from Mill Pond, rebuilding the watercourse for the Mill Brook so that it winds more and is widened to prevent flooding.
The path through the Meadow will begin at Beach St. (far right) with small entrance plaza. There’ll be rain gardens near path to capture water runoff.
The old, dying willows will be replaced with new willows and other native plant species.

Lynne Taylor on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes Tonight @ 6pm
Host Allen Estes welcomes Newburyport’s Lynne Taylor as his guest on Cape Ann TV’s Local Music Seen tonight at 6pm. If you miss it tonight, you can catch her Wednesday at 6:30pm or Friday at 1pm. See full schedule here.
The daughter of a folk musician and a poet, Lynne grew up in Kent, Ohio during the seventies, and absorbed the social consciousness of that time. She has always felt that music was her calling. She began writing her own songs at the age of fourteen, and has been performing professionally ever since. Lynne’s music is characterized by poignant, honest songwriting combined with a powerful vocal style and unique piano accompaniment. A staple on the music scene in her adopted hometown of Newburyport, MA, she has been performing professionally across the northeastern US since 1985.
In addition to being a popular solo artist, Lynne can also be found having a blast playing bass in her all original punk band, Halo and the Harlots and in roots/alt/country band Liz Frame and the Kickers! One thing is certain; Lynne Taylor has a sound and spirit that is instantly recognizable and all her own!
Lynne released a self-produced solo CD entitled Grace in 1996 and her band, Rantic, released their self-titled CD in 2001. Liz Frame and the Kickers released their first full-length studio recording in Oct. 2011, Halo and the Harlots released their self-titled debut in 2014, and Lynne released When Lightning Strikes in Oct. 2013.
