GMG Alternative Energy series: It’s Official! Kate and I Are Walkin the Solar Walk- Just Signed On With Tim Sanborn For Solar at Our House!

image

Signed the papers today!

If you’ve been following the blog for the past three years then you know I’ve been obsessed with alternative and renewable energy.  When it came down to putting money where my mouth is, you can see where we’re signing on with Tim Sanborn and his company Cazeault Solar and Home.  Tim has lived in Gloucester his whole life and every single person I’ve spoken with has nothing but the best things to say about him.

I’ve talked to a ton of people, done the first hand interviews with local people that I know and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has nothing but glowing reviews for Tim and Cazeault Solar.  The only thing they say they would do differently is do it SOONER and do MORE Solar.  Eliminating the electric bill or being cash flow positive in every instance is just too much of a no-brainer for me to pass up.  If you don’t like money, don’t do solar.  If you don’t like the environment, don’t do solar.  I’ve been dying to be able to do it and now instead of me telling you about everyone else’s success stories, now we’ll be able to share with you our experience, step by step.

WoooooHOOOOOOO!!!!

We’re in!

Call Tim right now and schedule your Solar consultation- 774-228-3411

Last night at EGS- continued discussion on new elementary schools

Councilor Memhard and the City’s school committee hosted a forum on a beautiful September night.

20160926_183159

The school committee presentation was briefer than the one at West Parish. The size of the audience was the same. There were repeat attendees and fresh faces. The handout was ambitious and sincere. Various wants and needs expressed were not in concert, but respectful. Councilors Paul Lundberg, Val Gilman, and Council President Joseph Ciolino listened attentively as did Chris Sicuranza from the Office of the Mayor, and Community Development Director Dan Smith. Several teachers currently working at East Gloucester and Veterans elementary schools and the 2 principals were present. Exceptional teachers from both schools made helpful comments. Ruth Flaherty spoke for the EGS staff. Residents and parents shared questions and comments until the scheduled start of the Presidential debates.

Baxter State Park

Back from my vacation from Baxter State Park up in Millinocket Maine and although we didn’t see any Moose to photograph, it was a such a peaceful few days just taking in the scenery!

This American Bittern which I’ve never seen before appeared out of the marsh.   Not being much of a birder, I looked it up and it’s in the Heron family.   If he hadn’t moved I would not even have noticed him, as he blends in very well with the marsh grass!

Dinner Out for a Great Cause

Mark your calendars, listen to some great music, share a few drinks with friends, maybe grab a bite to eat, and feel good that your money is going to a great cause!

7:20AM  Cleaned the mackerel by head and gutting them and then making cuts every 3/4 of an inch down each side of the fish so the marinade will penetrate.

Next patted them dry with paper towels and placed them in my go-to fish marinade-

soy/ginger/sesame seed/red pepper flakes.

I’ll let them sit in the marinade til 9:30 or so.  Check back around 10 for the next update!

PLANTING MILKWEED WITH CAMILLA MACFADYEN AND THE SARROUFS!

img_4947img_4937Thank you to Dawn and John Sarrouf for sharing their milkweed planting photos. They are visiting their friend Camilla at her family home in Small Point Maine, which sounds like, from Dawn’s description, a gorgeously beautiful location, and ideal Monarch habitat. There are fields of wildflowers, and Seaside Goldenrod grows just as easily in the rocky outcroppings there as it does on Eastern Point. After looking at maps, it appears as if you could draw a virtual straight line from Small Point to Eastern Point. Dawn and friends spotted about ten butterflies yesterday. Perhaps we’ll be the next stop (after the predicted rainfall).

Kindness just keeps rockin!

Back in July I had a post about the Kindness Rocks project which I happened to hear about through my friend Stephanie Deltorchio’s blog.    Well Stephanie took her kindness one step further and enlisted Mark Cole to get the city’s permission to “plant” a KINDNESS ROCKS garden at Stage Fort Park with the help of her 5 year old grandson Gabriel McQueeney, who worked hard collecting & painting the rocks.  They also left a basket with blank painted rocks for anyone who wants to make one.   Gabriel also “planted” a few in the playground area for children.   What a great lesson to pass on to the next generation!14440657_1122867341127764_1205885015468249877_n

Stephanie said she fell in love with the idea (as we all did!)  immediately and has since contacted Megan the originator and now Gloucester is listed on the Kindness Rocks website thekindnessrocksproject.com. People can post photos of rocks they find or their own on Facebook @TheKindnessRocksProject and can tag their rocks #thekindnessrocksproject on Instagram too.   She told Gabe that small acts of kindness can make someone’s day and he really hopes the rocks make people happy!    Anyone interested in contributing can certainly drop some rocks off to add to the kindness garden….I know I have a pile ready to go!  Thanks Stephanie and Gabe!!
