Lewis Sandler Gloucester Video From August 2010

Hey Joe,

Remember me? Lewis Sandler here. I took a video of Gloucester+ last August.. Well, it is now online…(I’m a little slow)
You can see it below..But keep in mind, the video was made for my students in university in Beijing, China who have never been to US and know little about US or especially small town USA.  My purpose was too introduce them to my hometown. So my video, in some aspects,(eg my family friends)  may be a little irrelevant to you or your viewers. But hope you enjoy it anyway.
I showed video to them last month and they all liked it very much. They asked me questions such as why so many boats, why the belly dancer dance in the street, why the man with the beer (you) doesn’t want his wife to know he drinks beer, what does my brother (Clark) think of government fishing regulations etc..

Beets! The Women of Chive Prepare Some Tasty Beets

Beets are available this time of year and this is a perfect way to use them to enhance your menu options. In this recipe and video the women of Chive (Chive Sustainable Event Design and Catering) prepare this easy, delicious and healthy silky, velvet beet puree that has a multitude of uses. The boiled beets are blended with some yogurt, olive oil, fresh lemon juice, salt and pepper. Finish by adding chopped chives.

The puree is also excellent with meat such as turkey and pork.

Kaitlin’s Response

Many of you wrote in asking just what the response from LA TV producer Kaitlin Herbert was after we requested nude photos before we could enter any serious negotiations to use the Crew of The Degelyse for the Food Network’s newest show.

In case you missed the first part I’ll repost it for you followed by Kaitlin’s response-

So yesterday morning I get an email from a woman named Kaitlin Herbert.  Kaitlin works for the television production company that produces the number one show on BRAVO- “the Millionaire Matchmaker and one of the top rated shows on Animal Planet “Pit Boss”.

So her production company is looking for some fishermen for a particular type of show they are developing for the Food Network.  She told me that she found GMG after an extensive search for Gloucester Fishing vessels. I sent here a pile of links to some of the videos we’ve done featuring Tuffy, Stoga and Trapper John.

Within an hour or so I got an email back from Kaitlin asking for the contact information for Tuffy saying that he and his crew seem like a great group of guys and that they would love to hear their story.

Tuffy happened to be out fishing but when he hit the dock we taped a special message for Kaitlin which you can view below.

Watch the video before reading her response so it will make sense.

Here is Kaitlin’s email response to Tuffy’s video-

I’m both mildly offended and incredibly impressed by your video. While I won’t be sending any nude pictures (that’s what free internet porn is for, boys), I’ve spoken to my bosses and they’re interested in speaking with the crew to get a better feel for the guys and what they do on a daily basis. They really enjoyed the video of Stoga, and would like to know if he’s part of the crew. If there is any more information you could give us, we would greatly appreciate it.

Rick Moore- The Good Morning Gloucester Interview

Rick Moore- the head cheese behind MooreStuffOnline.com swings by the dock to have a chat.

Check out the site, they are starting to get into news more, in addition to the sports-centric site that it had been.

I hope I have the energy and passion for something the way Rick obviously does for MooreStuffOnline when I’m his age.  The guy is a complete maniac!  I’m not sure if he already drank 6 or 7 cups of coffee but you should see this guy in action.  I’m looking forward to collaborating with him in the future.

seARTS WANTS YOU! To Vote For Gloucester Video With Jackie Ganim DeFalco and Kristine Fisher

Kristine Fisher and Jackie Ganim DeFalco stop by to talk all about seARTS and all of the exciting programs happening including the get the vote out effort to inform people about the American Style Magazine voting for Gloucester.

Kristine writes-

As a community we have a unique opportunity to select Gloucester as a Top 25 Arts Destination in the US……and we need your votes to make it happen!

Please join seARTS’ ( The Society for the Encouragement of the Arts) grass roots campaign to help elevate Gloucester’s visibility as a top U.S. arts destination.   Deadline for voting is March 5th !  Please vote multiple times!  Link below!

One of our interests is to help drive up the cultural/creative economy for all of Cape Ann.  We have succeeded in getting Gloucester nominated as a Top 25 Art Destination in AmericanStyle’s survey.  AmericanStyle is a highly respected national publication focusing on art and travel, and is an excellent resource for artists and art enthusiasts. It publishes the top art events across the country, highlighting select destinations and profiling individual artists.

The readership of AmericanStyle represents the cultural/creative economy that our community is hoping to attract and grow.  Securing Gloucester on their list as one of America’s Top 25 Arts Destinations will elevate Cape Ann on the national stage.  We have over 2,000 working artists on Cape Ann and a thriving community that celebrates the arts of all disciplines.  After all, our Rocky Neck is the country’s oldest continuous working art colony in the U.S.!

Because AmericanStyle’s survey is “city based,” we chose Gloucester, as it has the largest population.  seARTS has been sending weekly e-blasts to our membership requesting folks to vote by March 5, 2011. It is only through votes that Gloucester will secure a place on the list as a Top 25 Destination in AmericanStyle’s spring/summer issue to come out in May 2011.  We are hopeful that you will be comfortable voting “early and often” between now and March 5th.  Here is a link to the voting form.  http://www.americanstyle.com/current-issue/

Please scroll down to the “Small Cities” list and cast your vote for Gloucester!

Heather Atwood and Joanne Avallon Prepare Winter Sausage Giambotta Video at The Taste of the Times

image

Heather Atwood of Food For Thought invited an old friend to her kitchen to cook one of the old favorites from her Italian family’s recipes. It is quick, easy and proves again that there seems to be no limit to the various ways that Italian peasant food can be made to taste delicious. A giambotta is an Italian stew, particularly hearty and good for the winter months. It can be vegetarian or with meat, but Joanne Avalaon prepares one of her family recipes the way they made it growing up in an Italian household, made with sweet Italian sausage seasoned with fennel.
