Gaines covers the Berkowitz dinner-
BOSTON — For a private dinner at one of his Legal Sea Foods restaurants for which he made the intentionally provocative decision to serve three so-called blacklisted fish, Roger Berkowitz minced the black tiger shrimp but not his words.
It was an evening of food for thought.
"We have sustainable fisheries, now we need sustainable infrastructure. It has to come back to the center," Berkowitz said in a plea for common sense and reason, noting that many years of strict conservation have weakened the fishing industry while strengthening U.S. stocks.
"We are seeing something out of balance," Berkowitz added. "The environmental movement is well financed; the fishermen are not."

Good Morninng Gloucester would like to congratulate team “Five In The Pink” for their hard fought victory. They really had to dig deep to bang out the win but they found the intestinal fortitude to bring home the bacon. Excellent Work!
The boat wasn’t sinking they just had one of their stabilizing booms down over the side and it was encased in ice.

Referred to as "Pasta Gagoots" by many Italians from Sicily, including the family of Felicia (Ciaramitaro) Mohan, this is a layered pasta dish most often served when the cook has extra large zucchini or cuccuzza squash from the garden or elsewhere.

Here’s A Preview-
WHALING CITY is a dramatic narrative feature film set in New Bedford, Mass. in the rapidly changing world of the modern fishing industry. It tells the story of a third-generation independent commercial fisherman, struggling to keep a grasp on his way of life – and a long-held family boat – as costs rise and the heavily regulated fishing industry is pushed towards a corporate model of efficiency. While developing an unlikely relationship with a marine biologist, he is tempted to do whatever it takes to keep his boat. Principal photography was completed in fall 2010, and the film is currently in post-production. The finished film will run approximately 90 minutes in length and is slated to be ready for screenings and festival entries in spring 2011.
The screenplay was workshopped at Columbia University’s graduate film program from 1999 to 2002. It won the 2005 Alfred P. Sloan Screenwriting Award and the 2007 Sloan Feature Film Production Grant, and has been recognized in Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
WHALING CITY’s campaign – featuring an early trailer for the film – is now live on Kickstarter.com, after our project received an exclusive invitation to be featured on the innovative online funding platform for filmmakers and artists. View Now »

Joey,
Still more New Year’s Day highlights — this time a video of the plunge, produced by Sean Reardon of North Andover, a fan of the Blue Shutters Dips (his mom, Kim, was the Dip in the pink swimsuit). As news of this event has spread among friends (it as just highlighted in our Blue Shutters newsletter) a bunch more are promising to sign up for next year. Why wait ’til January — how about a Saint Pats plunge or an Easter Day Dunk? We may do a morning-after splash after our Chili Cookoff on February 12. It may not be a beach in the Carribean, but we think more and more folks are realizing Good Harbor in the winter definitely doesn’t suck! But those shots from the tropics sure look great.
