Thursday Night Blues Party at The Rhumb Line

Every time I get an email from Dave, I crack up laughing and want to show the world. GoodMorningGloucester is the next best thing to doing so. What a riot!

Here are a few words from Mr. Dave Sags.

This weekend

.

This thursday at the Rumline: the triumphant return of Mr. Jim Scoppa, headstrong harridan and glitarist x-troidinaire. Only surviving member of the famous band: T.H. and the Wreckage, the remainder being incarcerated for attempting to purchase an albino drummer slave in Africa. Wit,chops, and derring- doo doo describe Jim to a tee, makes Clapton sound like Tiny Tim. You gotta see this.
And, bracketing him from behind we have our ever-lovin’, Diesel stompin’ drummnist, Mr. Benny Benson, fashion plate and  Hibernian from Hell. Just love this guy! Fires at a rate of 600 rounds a minute. Of course, Greg “Whammy Bar” Tower will be there, trying to sneak in more Speedy West lix, and me, too, if I can find the place…
AND, ON FRIDAY NITE: It’s the Geezerz, once again, at that venerable venue: The Studio on Rocky Neck. Must I say it again?  A bubbling broth consisting of equal parts of Dave Brown, Dave  Stig-Mattacks, Greg Tower and myself, bringing in all the latest news from Mizar 5. No cover, no minimum,no fair, and no backsies. New hours, too: 8 pm till 11 pm or so, depending on survivors. Drink up!!

Breaking News- Look Out For Counterfeit $20 In Gloucester

The Gloucester Police Department has just reported that a counterfeit $20.00 bill has been discovered in downtown Gloucester.  The police say that typically there are a lot of bills circulated quickly.

Please be on the lookout for a poor quality twenty.  The bill will feel more like paper than legal currency.  It is the bill with Jackson’s head in a circle;  the bill is darker.  Generally the counterfeit bills will carry the same serial numbers, so look for repetition.  If you turn up a counterfeit, immediately contact Gloucester police at (978) 283-1212.  If the perpetrator is in the store, call 911.

Read Doug Maxfield

That is all.

To make it easier for you I’ll provide this handy link-

I may just refer every newspaper reporter to him from now on because he can say all the things that should be said but most are afraid to for fear of retribution.

As a matter of fact here is a suggestion to all newspaper folk-  You wanna know the straight dope on what’s really going on in the commercial groundfish industry- email Doug.

International Dory Race Elimination – Seniors What a Race!

This was a very close race, to the marker Eric and Glenn were in the lead, however Joe and Mark caught them and they all came out of the turn almost dead even, shortly there after, Eric and Glenn, had a near snag with Ed and John, this cost them precious seconds and they ended up chasing Joe and Mark to the finish line.

Chickity Check It! Doug Maxfield Speaks The Truth About Fishing

Unfortunately for the industry guys like Doug Maxfield don’t get book deals.  His truths and clear cutting of the bullshit that gets reported about commercial fishing for one reason or another gets ignored by major media and instead bananheads with very little real commercial fishing experience get anointed experts in the field.

In the current day and age when it is so fashionable to hop on the green train the general public and even worse- food writers buy into whatever crap the environmentalists label green or not green or safe or not safe and more often than not once one of these people say it’s so the rest of the  minions of loyal environmentalists fall right in behind them without ever doing real investigative work for themselves.

They ought to talk to guys like Doug or better yet read his blog- North Shore Waterman for the real deal.

Like the header for his blog?

It’s from a picture I took.

Here is your warning-Doug is RAW.  If you are offended by sexual innuendo or harsh truths with extremely salty language about all things commercial fishing don’t bother going there.

But if you want to read about what is really going on in the fishing industry from a back man’s perspective check out Doug’s blog and make it part of your daily reading.

Here’s the first post that I’d suggest you read to further illustrate why I think Doug Maxfield should be the guy that gets the book deal-

get your soap box

So I’m on the crapper the other day, and with no other options within a step the width of my under-pants, I found myself flipping through the New Yorker.  Wouldn’t you know it I found an article about the tragic state of the worlds fisheries         (http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/books/2010/08/02/100802crbo_books_kolbert?currentPage=1).  Always interested in people’s take, I read it.  HOLY-SHIT.  Do people outside of the industry and the towns of New Bedford and Gloucester actually believe any of the tripe?

August 29th Gloucester Event -Free Vendor Tables!

Dear Potential Vendors and Organizations!

Subject: SoberConnections.net & Cape Ann YMCA Camp Spindrift Event

I’m writing you since you showed an express interest in participating in our August 29 2010 upcoming
event called “End of Summer Splash”. We are scheduled to open the Gates around 12-12:30 PM and
the live music and events will be from 1-6PM. This is a Rain or Shine Event.

This is totally FREE to you the vendor, just set up and good luck! Since this is our first large event,
we cannot promise what our turnout is going to be, it could be 50 or 500. That being the case, we felt
that we couldn’t charge for vendor or organization booths.

This Event is the vision of SoberConnections.net being hosted at Cape Ann’s YMCA Camp Spindrift, 13 Atlantic Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930.

We at Sober Connections are striving to create events for the sober communities here on the North
Shore, and hopefully expand across the state. Our Social Website, http://www.SoberConnections.net has
started picking up people from all across the country! Our goal is to bring to the sober community a true
sense community awareness that there are fun things to do without the use and abuse of alcohol and
or drugs, and with our website, a forum for people to find or share these events whether it be just a
group of people heading to the movies, or a large event like we are pulling together for this venue.

We have been creating smaller venue events now for about 8 months, mostly local bands and dances,
but are stretching our wings to do this outdoor Bands and Barbeque Family Time event in the hopes of
raising monies not only for Camp Spindrift, but also for our quest to become nonprofit.

Ok enough said. Our venue for August 12, 2010 incorporate the following

*Local live bands and music from 1-6pm

*A barbeque that is included in the ticket pricing

*Children’s activities and games

*The use of Camp Spindrift’s Pool with lifeguards

*And hopefully you, the vendors and organizations, to help the parents and kids break up the
afternoon and do some worthwhile shopping or organization awareness!

What we would like from you if you’re interested in setting up, is to just answer the following questions
and contact info, and e-mail it (or snail mail with a quick telephone confirmation) back to us at

Danield@SoberConnections.net. Please let us know as well if you cannot so I don’t send out an annoying follow up e-mail.. lol.

VENDOR INFO NEEDED:

•Vendor Organization Name?

•Vendor Organization info?

•Type of Goods or Organizational program?

•Setup Space needed?

Thanks for responding back to us, and we hope you have a Profitable (in sales or
knowledge) and Fun time with us!

Daniel R Driscoll

We would like to have you onsite to setup before 11:30am so we may organize your vehicles and have
a nice clean festive look for the ticket holders when they start filtering in around 12:30ish.

Fish Box Derby Safety Inspections August 29th

Greg Bover writes-

stinger

Hey Joey,

Thanks for giving us a little space to remind folks that the Fish Box Derby is coming up fast. The race is Sunday, September 19 at High Noon down Rogers Street Hill in front of Gorton’s, but the Safety Inspection is in just two weeks away on August 29th at C. B. Fisk from 9 to noon. All cars and their drivers have to be registered, weighed and inspected on that date.

This is the seventeenth year we’ve run the race and it is one of the great family events of the year. Kids can race for bikes, Y memberships, whale watch tickets and other great prizes, even one for coolest car. Everything anyone would need to know is on our website: http://www.fishboxderby.org, or people can call me at 283-1932.

There is no registration fee for the kids. All the money it takes to run the race is provided by people and businesses that advertise on the bales of hay that line the racecourse. In addition, the Fish Box Derby gives two $1,000 each year to former racers who have reached college age. New sponsors are always welcome.

Come on down for the Thrill of the Hill.

Many thanks,

Greg
