Eric Salt & The Electric City
My View of Life on the Dock
If you’re an American Idol fan, you might just want to cross the bridge this afternoon.
Angie Miller, who was graduated from Beverly High School last year, will be honored in a parade starting at Beverly City Hall today at 3pm ending with a free concert in the south fields at Beverly High School at 4pm.
The Beverly Patch reports that Beverly Mayor Bill Scanlon said he expects “thousands of people” for the “largest crowd we’ve ever assembled” during his 18 year tenure as Mayor.
Here’s a video of Angie performing Rihanna’s hit Diamonds
Then tonight there’s plenty of excellent music in Gloucester. See the full schedule here. Captain Carlos welcomes Jenny Dee and the Deelinquints back for what should be a great show.
OK, I know this is a blog and we’re supposed to post about what’s happening right now — especially while our fearless leader is on vacation. But I just can’t resist telling people to save next Tuesday, May 15 at 7:30 for something you really don’t want to miss.
I’m going to bet there are people reading this who have never been to Shalin Liu. Here’s your chance. It’s FREE. And I’ll bet there are people reading who’ve never heard a harpsichord played live. You’re in for a treat. Shalin Liu is probably one of the best places on Earth to hear one — and it’s right down the street.
Then there’s the fact that Greg Bover, who lives in Magnolia and works at C.B. Fisk, built the harpsichord that his wife Frances Fitch, one of the area’s most accomplished musicians, will be playing. And the harpsichord is as beautiful to look at is it is to hear. So save the date, come on out and enjoy the talent that’s right in our own back yard.
Now for the immediate. This is a big week on Cape Ann:

Just back from their performance at the Montreal Pop Festival, Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents will be at The Rhumb Line this Friday for three sets of girl-group rock ‘n’ soul. Along with some select girl-group covers, the band’s repertoire channels Ronnie Spector via Ike and Tina Turner, and brings the crowd to the dance floor in droves. With a crack backing band featuring members of The Gravel Pit, Papas Fritas, the Phil Aiken Army, and Electric City, the Deelinquents will kick up their heels in Gloucester before starting a residency at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, every Thursday night in November.
