Jamie O’Hara Lugs Lobster Traps Up The Ladder While Ed Collard Spots and David Brooks Places

From Jamie O’Hara-

I want to thank everyone who helped out in building the tree on both Friday and Saturday. Friday, well Friday was not a good weather day but as Gregg B. Smith said, it was like hauling the traps at sea. Today was sunny and blowing a gale. Thank you to the nice lady who brought us hot chocolate and donuts. They both hit the spot. A special thank you to Hiltz Disposal and Lonny for their help. We could not have completed the tree today with out the “roll off”. Lonny was great helping out. The Captains who donated the use of their traps, Thank you. Happy Birthday Ed C. David and Daniel, great job. I would go into any project with you guys. Jeff W, well Jeff is the leader and this 10 years of experience is visible in the construction of the tree. Thank you to the Building Center for the use of their truck as well as the donation of top secret materials. For the people of Rockland, thank you for the “battle”, it is much fun. We wish Rockland a very Merry Christmas.

Mr Wonderful- GMG’s David Cox

We are lucky to have David taking pictures for us.  Y’all have no idea what he goes through to get the pictures you see that he takes to me.

Not computer savvy, David will spend hours at Walgreens editing his photos before he gets disc upon disc made so we can upload them and share with the GMG community.

So next time you see Mr Wonderful give him a pat on the back and thank him for sharing.

Here’s David all dressed up for the Banana Glam O Rama event at City Hall.  He cleans up pretty good wouldn’t you say?

Yes ladies he is available.  I’m thinking about pimping him out to  a select clientele of Cape Ann women.  Just leave a note and I’ll make all the proper arrangements to have our boy show you a good time.  😉

David Brooks From Art Haven Weighs In On The Gloucester vs Rockland Lobster Trap Tree Debate

From David Brooks-

So just so you all know this year the street will be shut down 3:30-5:00 so we can accomodate the masses of people who will be coming out to see the lighting of New Englands biggest and best Lobster Trap Christmas Tree!

Did anyone mention the the Gloucester Tree is adorned with the artwork of hundreds of Gloucester childrens. The Lobster Trap Tree represents more than just Christmas. It is a true representation of the fisherman of Gloucester, their families and the rich artistic heritage that makes Gloucester what we all hold so dear.

Our tree is more than just wire and rope and bricks. Its a symbol, and that what make it so much better the the Rockland tree.

Glam O Rama Reviews and Props From Maggie Rosa and Erika Hansen

From Maggie Rosa-
Gloucester has many treasures –  two of them were celebrated in a unique way this past weekend as vital contributors to the vibrancy of Gloucester’s downtown.

At the invitation of Kathy Slifer and Jan Bell, maestro and treasure RIchard Leonard staged one of his renowned Bananarettes shows in our treasured City Hall as a fundraiser for the restoration of CIty Hall.  During the two shows, one on Saturday evening and one on Sunday afternoon, the genius of Leonard to excite and tantalize with a hint of naughty but nice thrilled all in attendance.
City Hall was transformed from the center of city government to its second function, the center of our community. During its almost 140 year history City Hall seen circuses, Buffalo Bill shows, many parties and the 375th City Anniversary Sculpture Show but as Maggie Rosa, Chair of the City Hall Restoration Commission, remarked during the shows “Nothing, nothing can match the excitement of a Bananas show in City Hall – truly an historic event in an historic building.
From Erika Hansen-

Joey, you totally get how important this event was!

As you know, I have been looking at things that “lift my heart, open my mind and take my breath away” and the Banana Glam O Rama Fashion Show at City Hall did all those things and more!

I am intimidated to even take a stab at recording it, out of fear that I am not doing it justice, but I can’t resist your plea so here goes:

As Jackie Hardy commented, from the moment the lights dimmed and the music started, there was a palpable feeling that we had been transported to Broadway.

And then the first set of gorgeous women glided onto the stage looking like a 30’s Hollywood extravaganza come to life.

The production values were incredible:  everyone and everything looked and sounded stunningly gorgeous against the dramatic backdrop of City Hall’s Kyrouz Auditorium.  (And the silhouettes underneath the “Build not for today alone, but for tomorrow as well” quote were astounding!)

As a producer/director, Richard Leonard channeled Florenz Ziegfeld and Busby Berkeley; as a performer, he channeled Maurice Chevalier and Nelson Eddy.  Most importantly, he added his own inimitable flair and essential Richard Leonard-ness to all of the above and gave us the show of a lifetime!

Each routine was masterpiece:  from Carmen Miranda to Marilyn Monroe & Jane Russell to (yes!) Tom Jones…and all points in between.

It was a perfect mix of costumes, beauty, talent, humor, music, history and culture.

A special shout out to my sissy, Elise, whom many thought was a dancer by the way she moved so gracefully across the stage.  She epitomized 30s glamour and as Sue Ferhmann said (looking striking and elegant herself  in a classic tuxedo), it doesn’t hurt when you look like Elise!

And to Maggie Rosa’s very apt assessment that this event was a celebration of 2 Gloucester icons: Richard Leonard and City Hall, I add a third:  Margi Green’s legs!  Her already popular Relax and Lengthen stretching classes at the Arts & Wellness Center (222 Eastern Ave.) will now have waiting lists I’m sure!

I could go on and on (but I won’t!)…instead I will just leave you with this point:  my daughters, who were mesmerized for the entire performance (although my younger daughter did cover her eyes with her program during Tom Jones‘s gyrations!), were so inspired that they promptly acted out their own version of the spectacular Sisters act they had just witnessed (nuns (!) singing the song made famous by Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen in White Christmas).  As event visionary and organizer Kathy Slifer put it, “that’s what it’s all about!”

We here at Good Morning Gloucester will do anything for coverage on our most entertaining events.  Even if we have to bribe reporters with monopoly money.

Monkeyfist (seated and facing away) Bowsprite and Tugster Visit Gloucester

What a great visit I had from water bloggers From The North and South over the past few days.

Yesterday we went by Charlie’s Place for a great breakfast in which they all took turns mispronouncing linguica. 🙂

Many of you saw the lovely Bowsprite take her harbor swim in the cold Gloucester harbor water yesterday and know I’m a huge fan of her artwork.

Also along for the big waterblogger meet-up was Monkeyfist and Tugster.  I’ve been reading their blogs for a long while now and what is absolutely insane to me is that I never knew that Monkeyfist is actually a woman.  I had assumed that she was a he.

Tugster and Bowsprite hail from New York’s sixth borough (Tugster’s term for the Waters of New York) and Monkeyfist comes from Maine and does the awesome CascoBayBoaters blog. You can see Tugster’s blog here

They are all fantastic and if you like GMG you should really check out what these birds are doing.

Ed Collard Says- Bring The Heat You Gringo Bastards!

You may ask why a grown man from the North East is wearing a poncho.  You may also ask why this man is visibly upset.

Well after watching Big Lar’s video in which Lar was humble about the upcoming Hot Wing Challenge At The Farm Bar and Grill Ed felt he needed to come down to the dock and make a statement.

Ed says “Bring the heat you gringo bastards!”

Don’t forget to show up at The Farm Bar and Grille Thursday night at 7:30PM for the GMG/Farm Bar and Grille Hot Wing Competitive Eating Challenge.  It’s going to be a wild one.

Look for Ed’s video this afternoon at 4PM
