Gloucester’s New Cruise Ship Gets a New Website

In case you haven’t noticed, Gloucester now has its very own resident cruise ship, The Beauport Princess.  And what a beauty it is!  If you haven’t yet been aboard, this would be a good week to check it out because they’re offering “special introductory pricing.”  And on Friday, June 13, we’re producing a concert cruise featuring The Toasters (on their 2014 world tour) with a special reunion of Mile 21.  Tickets include the concert, Gloucester Harbor cruise and a party buffet featuring Seaport Grille’s world famous lobster rolls!  Get tickets here.

This week we launched a new website for Beauport Princess (see here).  And we built it using a “responsive design” (just like we did for The Cave — see our post about that here), which means it optimizes the viewing experience for what ever device you’re using: computer, tablet or phone.  For example, here’s what it looks like on a computer:

BPScreenshot

BPScreenshotPHONE

Here’s what it looks like on a smart-phone.  Notice the menu is optional.  It will automatically drop down when you tap on the menu icon (at the right of the bar with the word HOME in it).

Many other things have changed as well.  And if you turn your phone sideways it will change again — automatically.

If you tap the phone number at the top-right, your phone will automatically initiate a call to book a cruise.

This new website also works beautifully on an iPad and any tablet.

And best of all, the new website uses the same exact HTML code and content (photos, writing, graphics, cruise list, etc.) to display on the phone, tablet and computer.  (You can read a more detailed explanation of why you should build your next website using this type of responsive design here.)

Check out the new Beauport Princess website on all of your devices and see how it looks.

But don’t let that be a substitute for getting aboard.  How many people can say they live in a town with a cruise ship they can go on for an evening any time they like!

Dave Sag’s Blues Party to host Steve Sadler and Jimmy Scoppa tonight @ The Rhumb Line 5.29.2014

dave sag rl 4.3.2014

Dave says,

I am just wiped out from all the necessary machinations incurred oner the last weekend. Played music a lot and had to soak my aching body and head in a strong solution of Epsom Salts and Tito’s Vodka for two daze, just to get the banshees to wave a white flag. It helps to rub a little on the inside, too. Presently, I’m lucid enuf to egest this at you before the little people carry me away. At least, when I get Alzheimers,  I won’t remember that I forgot.
So, this Thursday  at the “newly renovated”* Rhumb Line, let’s welcome back Steve Sadler and Jimmy Scoppa. The commodious Steve S. has just returned from a successful campaign in Gaul, where jokes and sandwiches are divided in three parts.** No one knew enuf to clap. And Jimmy, late mechanic of T.H. and the Wreckage fame,  has got his scutum and pilum in fine shape for executing  masterful maneuvers against the enemy. These two guys will show you what it’s like to be an underrated glitar hero. Unbelievable! Can you say ooh-whee? Tintinnabulations supplied by the current hotshot  drummmbler of Broomful o’ Blooz, Mr. Chris Rivelli with myself on base. So launder your Spanx®, splash  on some Stetson© and join in on the fun!

*A countertop has been painted, and the lights have been turned off, making everybody look real good. See for yourself.
** just got done re-reading all of Woody Allen’s three old books. Maybe this is where I  stole everything. I was amazed at the similarities.

Dear Friends,

We’re baaaaaaack!!!!!
Tomorrow night, 5/23/14, is the kick off for Friday nights at the Castle Manor Inn, 7:00 to 10:00PM.
I will be there with the incredible….Thad Bernard and my dear friend Deby Wantman! As beautiful as the Castle may be, make no mistake, this is a very casual and comfortable atmosphere with the friendliest staff and a view that is beautiful!
On another note, last night I had gone out to see the best of the best of local talent, there we’re some tourists
in the audience asking questions about our little city of music and they were in such awe of the support and
the connection we all have, I was so proud to be part of this, again I say, I take none of this for granted!
Hope to see you,
Toni Ann

Lydia Warren Tonight @ The Dave Sag’s Thursday Blues Party! Time 8:30!

dave sag rl mo

Summer’s almost here! Yes, yes, Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and to celebrate, let’s have a ball! So here goes!
This Thursday at the Rhumb line, welcome back Ms. Lydia Warren. Winner of many awards, this lady is known for her stinging guitar and plaintive vocals. She always wrecks the joint! She’s bringing along Mr. Ephraim Lowell, on drums and hopefully, Matt Kelly on gootar. We’ll see. Should be a blast.

Great weather means you have to plan ahead a little

Every once in a while, we make a point of alerting you when upcoming concerts are about to sell out or when seats are released.  We realize Gloucester is a last-minute-town and, during the winter, you can get used to showing up on the day of a concert to buy tickets at the door.  As more people discover the thriving music scene around here, you can’t always do this — even in Winter.

Gary Hoey @ Larcom Theatre 3/15/14
Gary Hoey @ Larcom Theatre 3/15/14

Now we’re approaching the time of year where you really do have to think ahead a little — especially if you want to see a show at Shalin Liu in Rockport.  Many of their May shows sold out and if you check their website, you’ll find shows in June and July with only a very few seats left.

Luckily for you, there are still seats left to see Gary Hoey this Friday (tickets here).

Gary’s solo set dazzled the packed Larcom Theatre audience back in March when he performed with James Montgomery and the Guitar Summit.

So just accept the fact that living in the middle of one of the top music scenes in the U.S., means you’ll have to plan ahead if you want to see some of the top artists who come here.

As always, we’re here to help with a local live music listing that’s updated every day.

Lisa Marie Tonight @ The Dave Sag’s Blues Party!

dave sag rl mo

She’s back….! That boisterous belter of the blues: Ms. Lisa Marie. Just back from the cotton harvest in Mississippi, she’s ready to drop that eleven foot sack on your big toe. One of our faves, this gal has the wherewithal to get your intestines in a double clove hitch! Till you cry “ooh whee!”
She’ll be bringing along her posse of sympathetic players including “Silvertone” Steve or is it “Silverfish?” on guitar, Johnny Juxo, a new guy for me, on kleeboards, and Steevee “HaHa” Chaggaris, on defibrillators. I’ll be on base, in the corner, and hopefully, in the pocket.  Do come! Our new hours are 8:30 to 11:30.
And like Dave Brown says:” We are nothing without you!” I mean it. Free Serutan® to the first 300 contented fans!

You have until noon tomorrow to save $10

EntrainPoster_900bJust because tomorrow’s Entrain concert will help raise money for Gloucester’s UU Meetinghouse Restoration Fund doesn’t mean you should pay more than you have to.

Yesterday we told you the minute a few good seats were released for John Sebastian (they were gone within an hour of our post).  Today we’re giving you fair warning that $20 advance tickets for Entrain will be gone by noon tomorrow.

So get down to the Liquor Locker tonight or when they open tomorrow at 8am.  Or get advance tickets online here.
