“I can hear that one with the band” ~ OK, Allen, here it is!

A few weeks ago, we premiered Chelsea Berry‘s new song Lonely Being Lonely on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes (see the post here).  When she finished the song, Allen said, “Yeah, I can hear that one with the band.” to which Chelsea replied, “That’s the electric guitar song.”

This video shows part of the solo acoustic version aired on Local Music Seen followed by the electric version of that same part of the song shot at a rehearsal for the band’s debut on June 28 at North Shore Music Theatre opening for Chris Isaak.  Enjoy!

Firstly, this Thursday at the Rumblind sees the return of that mayhem inspiring mover of the hips: Mr. John Keegan©, the man who practically invented the hangover! Erstwhile leader of that rocking’ outfit known as Madhouse, Johnny K. is sure to raise your blood pressure to alarming new levels as he gargles his way thru the entire soul music catalog. He’ll be backed up by that palpitating pianist and general keyboard wizard; Mr. John Cameron. We’ll also be tapping our canes to the boogie beat with our own Irish Ace of Pace: Mr. Benny Benson on eggbeaters. Of course, Mr. Greg T. and myself  will be there, too, monitoring the Richter Scale. Wear helmets!

Thursday night sunset sail on the Schooner Ardelle ~ music 6/21/12

Hi friends, artists, gardeners and Honky Tonk Women fans…..
If you enjoy sailing out on the water…..
A new music, sunset cruise is being offered by Harold Burnham of the Schooner Ardelle
beginning Thursday, June 21st from 5:30 to 8:30. The Everly Sisters (Sheila Schrank & Elaine Persons)along
with Mr. Ron Schrank on guitar and Mr. Barry O’Brien on mandolin will be joining us.
It promises to be a very, very hot night so the water will be a beautiful place especially
at sunset.   Beer and wine, snacks, are available. Bring your own flask !
If you are interested, join us at the dock at 5:45 pm behind the Maritime
Gloucester / Heritage Center (next dock over from the Gloucester harbormaster) off Harbor Loop.

Local Music Seen ~ first ever show on location!

On Mardi Gras, Local Music Seen with Allen Estes went to Minglewood to shoot the sold out Mardi Gras on Rogers Street benefit for Y Teens Rebuild New Orleans.  It took some time to edit all the footage and create a good show, but with the help of Cape Ann TV’s master director and editor, Lisa Smith, we finally got it done and the show airs TONIGHT at 6:30pm on Cable Channel 12.

In this video, you’ll see the complete (un-cut) version of Henri’s studio interview with Allen and a very unusual performance of Henri singing Route 66 accompanied by Allen on Guitar and harmonica.  If you want to see the Mardi Gras footage, you’ll have to watch the show (we’ll put this show in the archives soon for those of you who don’t live on Cape Ann or don’t have cable.  You’ll be able to find it here.)

After a nice hot day, you’ll want to cool off tonight at any of the six air-conditioned venues with great live music.  See the cool live music lineup here.

Allen Estes’ New Song Written for J.B. Amero

Check out this new song  by Allen Estes that premiered on Local Music Seen on June 6.  Allen wrote the song with J. B. Amero in mind, thinking J. B. would do a great job with it — especially the end where he could scat and whail.  What do you think?  Tell us by leaving a comment.

Allen will likely stop by Jalapenos tonight and might even sit in and sing this new song and, if JB’s there, perhaps he’ll chime in too.

Friday nite June 22 I’ll be opening up the Summer season at a new venue in town. The Castle Manor Inn on Essex Ave. is opening under new management and I’ll be there with an all-star lineup (with Jon Ross, fabulous guitarist and vocalist, John Cameron, once again on keys, and Jeff Casper, the friendly drummer, sitting on his own stool) to crank out some serious dancing music  Let’s keep it alive! Hours are 7 to 10, so you have no excuse not to show up! Come cheer us and them on! We need this!

Zip Line Kid shows you how to chop wood and use a socket set to fix a wagon

When we built the zip line (See those videos here), we had to chop down some trees and since yesterday wasn’t much of a beach day, John decided to chop them up and fix his wagon so he could haul the wood into the garage to store until it gets really cold.  In this video he shows you how to chop wood with an ax and use a socket wrench to repair a wagon (red wagon, of course).

Deb and I would really like to make this a huge success and sell out this event. It’s actually a great deal for what we promise will be a great time for everyone! For $20.00 per ticket you will be entertained by the classic rock band Full Circle. That’s 2 hours and 50 Minutes of awesome music for your dancing pleasure and also included in the ticket price is a Hot & Cold Buffet, not to mention the beautiful 3 hour boat trip on one of Gloucesters most popular Whale Watch Boats, The Privateer IV. That’s more than worth the ticket price right there, but what’s more is there will be a cash bar, 50/50 cash raffle & also prize raffles with what we promise will be some fantastic prizes…There’s one in particular that I would really love to have, but as one of the organizers, I can’t be involved in the raffle’s :`(. New Orleans Fun ~ more than New England usually allows

Let’s face it folks, we, in New England, are known for being kinda stuffy, right?  Isn’t that why we’ve welcomed Henri Smith to Gloucester?  Isn’t that why we do our level best to keep him here year after year?  Yes, he’s a fine musician.  Yes, most of his friends are all top talent too.  Yes, he infuses Gloucester will all kinds of culture we’ve never before experienced.  But let’s be honest.  He’s fun!  And so are his super-talented friends.  Just look at this video:

Don’t these guys just look like they’re having the time of their lives?  We need more of that — and we’re going to get it on June 3o when Henri gathers the most talented, fun-loving New Orleans musicians you can see north of the bayou at North Shore Music Theatre to open for the iconic for Aaron Neville (get tickets here).  Henri’s band will include:

Keith Richards to co-produce Aaron Neville’s new CD on Blue Note Records with Don Was

Imagine the new CD that Aaron Neville, Don Was and Keith Richards will create for Blue Note Records, the most famous jazz record label of all time (think Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Norah Jones, etc., etc.)

Oh, did I mention — Keith Richards will play guitar on this new CD too!

In two weeks we may hear some of the music slated for this new CD at North Shore Music Theatre.  Tickets are still available here.

Amadee Castenell from HBO’s hit series Treme Joins Henri Smith on June 30 at North Shore Music Theatre

Yesterday we featured Stanton Davis and Les Lumley from Ghetto Mysticism.  Today it’s Amadee Castenell, who has recorded and toured with Elvis Costello, Allen Toussaint — with whom he appears in the HBO hit series Treme (Amadee is to Irma Thomason’s left in this video) and many others.  Amadee joins Henri Smith’s band on sax & flute June 30 opening for Aaron Neville at North Shore Music Theatre (get tickets here).  At about 3 minutes into the video below you get an idea of Amadee’s virtuosity — starts out slow and subtle, then wows the audience!

Now that it’s summer, there’s more to do on a Wednesday night in Gloucester.  Lots of good people playing (see full music lineup here), but we just have to mention the first solo appearance by Dylan Estes (Allen’s son) at Giuseppe’s tonight.  He’ll start about 8:30.  We’ll be there with John, the Zip Line Kid.
