I can see it in this kid.Ā The way he climbs all over the boat without any fear.Ā The way he grabs the fish and loves everything about being out on the water.Ā Mark my words- in 15 years this kid will be a great Gloucester fisherman (that is if they let you catch any fish by then or if the entire industry hasnāt been bought out by big corporations which will make it impossible for a young person to make break into it).

A Dragger’s Net Spread Out For Mending
Here is a draggerās net spread out so that it can be worked on. The orange balls act as floats at the top of the net as it gets towed through the water the boyancy of the orange balls keep the opening of the net as wide as possible to catch the most fish efficiently. Along the bottom you see the rubber rollers which make up the bottom part of the net as it gets towed behind the boat.

Cod Academy opens doors
by Muriel L. Hendrix
After more than a year of planning and lengthy application procedures, the Maine Aquaculture Association has received federal funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration aquaculture program and the agency’s northeast regional office for a new program, Cod Farming for Maine’s Commercial Fishermen. The "Cod Academy", as it has been dubbed by Sebastian Belle, director of Maine Aquaculture Association, will provide a unique opportunity for fishermen of Hancock and Washington Counties to develop an alternative business which utilizes their existing skills as fishermen.

Cut Out Stern on The Dog and I vs Setting Table On The Stanley Thomas
Johnny Doc Herrick has lobster traps all ready to launch off the stern as lobster season is getting under way. If you notice the stern of the Dog and I is cut out level with the deck of the boat. Some guys like open sterns and others have closed sterns on which they build setting tables. The ones with setting tables like the Stanley Thomas slide the traps down the rail of the boat and set them off teh setting table. the ones with the cut out sterns set the traps off of teh deck of the boat.
