Not one but TWO Lanesville Gallery Openings on Saturday.

Have you heard? Flatrocks Gallery in Lanesville is opening a show in their beautiful new gallery this Saturday from 5 to 7 pm.

Also, Elizabeth Enfield has an really interesting exhibit opening this weekend at her gallery just down the road from Flatrocks, across the street from the Lanesville Post Office. The exhibit is called 50/50 and here’s a bit more about it from Elizabeth:

There will be an exhibition of my father’s work, over 50 framed photographs, displayed in my gallery at 1095 Washington Street in Lanesville, about 3 miles from downtown Rockport. He was an architectural designer of furniture, lighting and interiors. There will also be renderings, drawings and blueprints to look through.  About 10 actual pieces of his work will be displayed, tables, desk, chairs and a pair of etageres. …This auspicious event will continue through the month of August: Friday, Saturday and Sunday and by appointment other times. Tel: 786-282-2434

Sassy Eco Bags

Sassy Eco Bags are uniquely designed handbags, purses and totes.  Each bag has been handcrafted from discarded coffee or tea bags from area coffee houses.  By rescuing these materials and reusing them, they are kept away from dumps and landfills.  The materials used in each bag are durable as well as attractively functional.  I hope you enjoy the bag.

Feel free to feel good about helping the Earth and looking Sassy at the same time.

Upcycled Chairs

Friends Polly Hickey and Cheryl Davis have come up with a great idea – finding cast-off chairs on the side of the road, cleaning them up, and selling them at a reasonable price at the Farmer’s Market here in Gloucester on Thursdays. Their business, Upcycled Chairs, has already gained popularity at the Market. Several have been sold. Instead of being discarded in the trash, these chairs will have a new life. Very cool!

Help Create a Scene in Rockport!

Rockport is an awesome, beautiful place, but some of us who live here would like to shake things up a little bit. So we’re throwing an art party of sorts on August 18th right in downtown Rockport. And to truly make this a community event, I set up a project page on Kickstarter. I’ve been really out of it lately, having a baby and trying to stay awake during daylight hours, so putting this together on Kickstarter took some more mental prowess than I expected, but I figured it out eventually (hats off to GMG contributor E.J. who funded her book project with your support through Kickstarter!). Anyway if you’re one of the Cape Ann locals or visitors who want to see art happen in spontaneous ways in dowtown Rockport, check out the Art Exchange project to see if it’s something you can support. We are funding this event with a goal of $500 and so far we have $50 raised, which is exciting! Feel free to email me (Sarah) at artnowrockport@gmail.com or therovinghome@gmail.com with any questions about the project or the event itself. And just click the image to find out more:

On that day scores of artists from near and far will be arriving in Essex to artistically capture the Town’s limitless variety of local scenes and its magnificent landscape.

The event is two-fold: Registered painters will Paint Essex from

Art Party at “The Annie” – paintings by Sheila Lavelle

Yesterday evening there was an art party at The Annie for the opening of a show of beautiful paintings by Sheila Lavelle.  The artist was present, as was Henry Allen (founder of The Annie).

Artist Sheila Lavelle (second from right) with Henry Allen (far left) and guests

Her paintings are tranquil and calming, most of them suggestive of beach and sea skylines.

Overview of some of the new art on display

The art was accompanied by dishes of delectable appetizers, presented with artistic flair…

…including faux “candles” glowing in origami boxes!

The art will be on display all month. Several of the paintings sold while I was there, so get down to see them soon if you want to buy one of these beauties!

If you can’t make it, you can also view and buy her art on line.

Wreath made from rope found at Folly Cove From Mary Bowles

Mary Bowles writes-

Hi Joey,

I was at Folly Cove a couple of weeks ago with my niece and nephew (Lily & Stevie) and we picked up a bunch of the pieces of colorful rope that wash up along the shore there.  I bought a wreath frame and today we used the blue and orange rope to make a wreath.  I took this picture of them holding the finished product at Long Beach.  They were really excited to make something out of stuff they found!
