Paulie Walnuts’ Art Rocks Buoy To Be Auctioned Off For Art Haven
Art Haven Director Dawn Gadow contacted Paulie about making one of his famous Art Rocks Buoys for the upcoming Buoy Auction and Art Show at Cruiseport.
So for all of you who have tried and failed to get yourself an Art Rock you can bid for Paulie’s Art Rocks Buoy- (a one of a kind) at the Art Haven Buoy Auction. I can attest to this being a super fun night. The Art Show itself is worth it, seeing all the talent that is coming up in this community is amazing.

Yesterday Morning When going for coffee I ran into Paulie Walnuts just as the sun was getting to rise at Good Harbor.
I was setting up my tripod to take a pic or ten and Gino Cavelieri introduced himself to Paulie and I and asked for a few pointers on how to capture the sunrise. I gave him the pointers that I knew and took him through some of his camera settings while Paulie gave him a GMG sticka.

The next meeting of Skeptics in the Pub will be on January 18, beginning at 6:00 PM at the Dog Bar, 65 Main St. The meeting will kick off with time to meet, greet and order food followed by the magic and mentalism of local magician Peter Jackson. This gathering is sponsored by Cape Ann Skeptics. Skeptics in the Pub get togethers are regularly scheduled on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. The Farm Bar and Grill Reps the North Shore In State Dart Championship Match
A few months ago The Farm Bar & Grille began competing in the Minuteman Dart league, one of the most prestigious dart leagues in all of the United States. After a long regular season the Farm team beat out 12 other teams from around the Northshore and was crowned "Regular Season League Champions". They entered the State tournament as a huge underdog due to their first year status. The State tournament started well with a quick win, but since then the pressure has been mounting. The next three matches came down to the last dart but the FARM team always seemed to find the cork. Just this past week The Farm beat another bar/restaurant from western mass in the State semi-finals to push them on to the State Championship. This week, Tuesday and Thursday, The Farm will be competing in the State Championships as they represent the North Shore. Their first game is this Tuesday 1/18/11 @ The Farm Bar & Grille at 7:30pm as they will be competing against the champions from the Boston division. The Farm will be offering food specials to all the fans that show up to cheer on the team.

Coast Guard rescue crews medically evacuate crewman from fishing vessel
BOSTON – U.S. Coast Guard crews medically evacuated a crewman from the fishing vessel Jennifer Anne 115-miles east of Cape Anne, Mass., Jan. 16, 2011.
Coast Guard watch standers received a report from the captain of the fishing vessel Jennifer Anne that a 53-year old male on board was experiencing chest pains at approximately 3:50 p.m.
An HH-60 rescue helicopter crew and an HU-25 Falcon Jet crew launched from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod to aid the injured man.
Once on scene the man was hoisted to the helicopter.
The man was transported to Cape Cod Hospital and was reported to be in good condition at 8:45 p.m.

Things To Do- Cape Ann Museum Free To Residents All January
If you haven’t been to the Cape Ann Museum lately and are sitting around saying to yourself- “there’s nothing to do” then you ought to get your ass down to The Cape Ann Museum right here in your back yard. It’s free all month and it is a huge treasure. You’ll be blown away with the sheer number of cool artifacts and stuff you can learn there.
No excuses- Get there- It’s Free- and Totally Worthwhile!

January Events
The Cape Ann Museum invites all Cape Ann residents to visit for free during the month of January! The Museum presents a full schedule of public programs that should not be missed:
Saturday, January 15 at 3:00 p.m.: Researching Alone at Sea: An illustrated talk with author John Morris, book signing to follow.
Saturday, January 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and Sunday January 23 from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.: Winter Shorts: Cape Ann Museum docents present a weekend series of mini tours highlighting their favorites from the Museum’s collection. See website for a complete list of tour topics www.capeannmuseum.org.
Saturday, January 29 at 11:00 a.m.: Saturday Showcase: Celebration of the Sea: Revels Repertory Company. Explore the lives of the men who went to sea during the great age of sail as whalers or merchant seamen and the family and friends who remained on shore.
Guided Tours: Docent-led tours during January: Highlights of the Collection tours will be offered every Friday and Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. No reservations are required.
Special exhibitions currently on view include: To Gather Together and Keep These Bonds: Highlights from the Permanent Collection; John Manship: Views of Butman’s Quary; and, Outside the Box: Large Scale Paintings from the Collection. The Museum is closed to the public during the month of February.
Funding for these programs was made possible through a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency which promotes excellence, access, education and diversity in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences, in order to improve the quality of life for all Massachusetts residents and to contribute to the economic vitality of our communities.
The Cape Ann Museum is located at 27 Pleasant Street in Gloucester. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Museum is closed during the month of February, on Mondays, and on major holidays. Admission is $8.00 adults, $6.00 Cape Ann residents, seniors and students. Children under 12 and Museum members are free. The Museum is wheelchair accessible. Adam Bolonsky Sends In VHF Radio Mayday: Winter on the Gulf of Maine
Be Prepared to Give Your Location for a Channel 16 Mayday Call
One key to making a vhf radio mayday call is to give your location. In this call, the harried captain of a sinking fishing boat fails to. A second nearby fisherman breaks in on the call to remind the captain to give his location, in this case with Loran bearings. Video background footage is of dayboats unloading their commercial fishing catch in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Backstory: The fishing vessel Whistling Dixie strikes a submerged object in winter seven miles off the coast of Maine. The captain makes a rushed vhf mayday radio call to the Portland Coast Guard. He struggles to give his loran bearings. His boat rudder post has punctured the boat’s hull, leading to catastrophic flooding. A nearby fisherman chimes in on the call to assist, reminding the captain to give his location. The crew members were later rescued from their life raft. Whistling Dixie sank and was marked a securite hazard by the Coast Guard.
