Cape Ann Film Festival To Feature “Maritime Capsules: A Dory Story” From Keith Palazzola, Sal Zerilli and Matt Bradley

Hello Joey,

As you may have heard, I’ve been working on a documentary film for the past 18 months with Sal Zerilli, Matt Bradley.

I’m writing to share some news about the film, and to ask you for a little bit of help getting the word out…

The news…The film’s title is Maritime Capsules: A Dory Story. It tells the story of the Grand Banks dory from the heyday of high-lining schooners to the current group of locals who sustain the ancient rowboat as a symbolically important part of Gloucester’s maritime culture.

A “rough cut” of the film is showing this upcoming Sunday, November 18 at 6p as part of the 5th Annual Cape Ann Film Festival.  The film will screen at the Cape Ann Community Cinema in Gloucester.  The address is 21 Main Street.

A record 109 theatregoers packed into The Annie last night to see Greasy Pole, The Musical!, and gave another rousing standing ovation! (That makes 14 standing ovations since we opened!) Thank you for your support. Many happy patrons mentioned seeing us on Good Morning Gloucester!
There are still seats available at all shows, but they are going fast. If you get your reservations in early, you won’t have to wait till next year.
Come see what all the buzz is about. Don’t forget our two Saturday matinees at 2 & 3pm. Call 978-704-1269 to reserve tickets, and you can pay at the door. Arrive 20-30 minutes before curtain, as unclaimed tickets will be released to the hungry public 15 minutes before the show starts. All seats $15.

It’s Fiesta Week At Cape Ann Community Cinema & The Annie

During St. Peter’s Fiesta on Wednesday, June 22nd through Sunday, June 26th, two of Gloucester’s West End venues in the heart of all of Fiesta’s happenings offer up a host of different events to entertain, enrich and enlighten Fiesta-goers.
The Cape Ann Community Cinema (CACC) at 21 Main Street has two films.

Sam Hartson’s new documentary entitled “This Is Fiesta” makes its debut, with shows Wednesday through Sunday at 5:00pm. Hartson is best-known for his “Celebrate Gloucester” concert film.

Also, Gloucester native Sal Zerilli’s documentary about The Fort Neighborhood called “No Pretty Prayer” returns, with shows Wednesday through Friday at 7:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30pm and 7:00pm. The film sold out every show at its CACC premiere this winter.

Friday at 9:00pm, the Cinema’s “Opera On The Island” program presents (in glorious HD) Giuseppi Verdi’s “La Traviata” from Milan’s La Scala.
Saturday at 9:00pm, The Earl Foote Band hits the stage for a rare appearance. Foote is half of the Cape Ann favorites Earl & Arch, creators of the essence of Gloucester song “Gloucester ‘Til The End.”

All Fiesta shows at CACC are considered special events, and are priced at $10.00 (no passes accepted). Tickets are available at the Cinema or online at www.CapeAnnCinema.com.

Across the street at The Annie at 1 Washington Street in Gloucester, the Henry Allen TheatreWorks Cape Ann production of “Greasy Pole: The Musical!” concludes its run. The show is a funny, bright and poignant 45-minute musical history of the Fiesta sporting event known as The Greasy Pole, in which competitors, known as “walkers,” attempt to traverse a greased-up 45-foot telephone suspended off the end of a platform in Gloucester Harbor off of Pavilion Beach. Henry Allen of The Annie and Keith Palazzola wrote the book, and Rob Newton of the CACC and Kitt Cox wrote the music and lyrics. The show runs Thursday at 6:30pm & 7:30pm, Friday at 6:00pm & 7:00pm, Saturday at 2:00pm, 3:00pm, 6:00pm & 7:00pm and Sunday at 7:00pm, 8:00pm, 9:00pm & 10:00pm. Tickets for all performances are $15.00, and are available at The Annie or online at www.TheAnnie.org.

Sal Zerilli’s Fort Movie “No Pretty Prayer” Train To Boston Thursday For The Boston International Film Festival

Catch the 12:08 train Thursday April 21st to Boston which will be be packed with Gloucesterites to catch Sal Zerilli’s “No Pretty Prayer” at The Screening At The Boston International Film Festival this Thursday.

2600 films applied, 100 were accepted including No Pretty Prayer.

Immediately following the film there will be a meet and greet with the producers and stars of the film at The Beantown Pub on Tremont St.

I am happy to let you know that ‘No Pretty Prayer’ will screen at the Boston International Film Festival on April 21 at 29 at the AMC Theatre at 175 Tremont Street, Boston, MA. According to information provided by Festival organizers, the film was one of about 100 films accepted from 2600 entries.

No Pretty Prayer

Sal Zerilli grew up “down the fort” during the 70’s and 80’s. He moved away, but held on tight to the love for his unique neighborhood of close-knit families and Italian traditions. Two years ago, fearful that the slow but imminent process of gentrification of his beloved fort would destroy its charm, Sal decided to preserve a bit of the precious history.

His documentary, “No Pretty Prayer” is a touching documentary of people and place. Each show at the Cape Ann Community Cinema has sold out. I saw it last night with Joanne (GMG’s own)who grew up as a non-Italian down the fort. Please-if you get a chance, catch this film. It’s a bit of Gloucester history that everyone should see. Bravo,Sal!!

Gloucester Screenings: film about the Fort

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be screening a final version of No Pretty Prayer, a film about the Fort, in Gloucester in late December.

We’re planning two public screenings of the film–one on December 29, the other on December 30. Both of these screenings will begin at 7p.

The screenings will be held at the Cape Ann Community Cinema, 21 Main Street.
