I didn’t do my research on Gloucester’s haunted places before we went on our Canada/New England cruise last year. I figured we’d take an excursion to Salem the day we docked there. Alas, we didn’t do the Salem route and instead spent part of the day walking around Gloucester.

Lily makes these cool nautical themed buoys and sells them (see how you can get one for yourself below the pic). It was so nice of her to think of us here at GMG headquarters and make one of her beautiful buoys with Da logo!
Lily Linquata started painting buoys last summer as part of her involvement in a seasonal gift shop downtown. After selling over fifty to tourists, all from out of state and usually from the middle of the country, she thought there might be a market for unique nautical items outside of Gloucester. Encouragingly for all of us, there is. Based on some blogged photos alone, wedding-related orders have been placed from Chatham, MA and Florida, as well as nursery requests from New York City and a few local birthday buys, as well.
Purchased at Winchester Fishing, these buoys are the real deal; what you’ll find bobbing in the Atlantic most days. Hand painted and calling for three hours of time each (outside of drying) they’re currently selling for $25 to $50 via custom e-mail orders. As of April, these buoys and a few other local items will be available on http://gloucestergoods.com/
O’MALEY MIDDLE SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT
Beauty & The Beast, Jr.
4 performances over 2 weekends
Friday, March 4, 2011 at 7:00 PM Friday, March 11, 2011 at 7:00 PM
Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 1: 00 PM
Seventy sixth, seventh and eighth grade students are in the cast and crew. (please see the enclosed cast/crew list for names of students in the show, which has been double cast). They have been rehearsing for an hour after school once or twice a week since September to ensure that these performances will meet the standards set by our past productions. You are sure to be impressed and inspired by our young performers as they sing, dance, and act out this heartwarming story. The performances are an excellent showcase of the end product of our Performing Arts Department’s elective after school training programs in Music (Chorus), Dance, and Theatre. The production builds upon the skills and talent of our designers as well – Russell and Melissa Hobbs (set design & construction), Camilla MacFayden (scenic designer/painter) and Linda Stockman (costume designer/builder). They have engaged our students in the technical aspects of theatre.
Tickets ($7 adults/ $5 students and senior citizens) can be purchased at all school lunches and will go on sale a half hour before each show time. We will be collecting non-perishable items throughout the run of the shows to donate to the Cape Ann Food Pantry.

Joey, thanks for the shiny new GoodmorningGloucester stickas. I promise to proudly represent Gloucester wherever I go. Here’s another Haiti photo taken at the Children’s Nutrition Center at Hopital Sacre Coeur in Milot. The nonprofit Crudem Foundation out of Ludlow, MA runs the hospital (crudem. org).

The Super Bowl. The World Series. The Stanley Cup. Nope – never heard of ’em. We do know that as winter starts to come to a close, it’s time to celebrate, not only because it’s no longer necessary to chip the caked salt from your shoes every night, but because Academy Awards Night is imminent.
The Cinema’s annual WICKED AWESOME OSCARS PARTY is this Sunday the 27th, with doors opening at 7:30pm. Guests will get to vote on the 7 major categories, and one winner of a private movie party will be chosen at random from the field of most-right predictions. The Party is free to attend, with a suggested donation of $10.00 to benefit the Cinema.
The Oscar-nominated short films will be playing all weekend: the Animated shorts on Friday the 25th at 7:30pm, Saturday the 26th at 5:00pm and Sunday the 27th at 4:00pm; the Live Action shorts Friday the 25th at 5:00pm, Saturday the 26th at 7:30pm and Sunday the 27th at 5:30pm.
The new documentary, THE HARMONY GAME, about the making of Simon and Garfunkel’s legendary 1971 album, "Bridge Over Troubled Water," will screen on Thursday the 24th at 7:30pm for a special one-night-only engagement. Door prizes will include copies of the film and the album on CD.
Want the full schedule? Either visit our website, or download the whole shebang through March 31.
A NOTE ABOUT TICKET PRICING
We do our very best to keep prices low (we have the lowest concession prices anywhere), but from time-to-time, we must adjust for inflation. I won’t say that it pains me to announce an increase in ticket prices – it’s only 50 cents across the board – but effective March 1, 2011, tickets will be priced as such:
$9.50 ::: Adults
$8.00 ::: Students & Seniors
$6.50 ::: Members
Premium tickets (fundraisers, operas, ballets) will remain as-is.
Until then, discount tickets are available at the present 10/$60 price (they will be 10/$65 after 2/28/11). As a special incentive, we are offering a seat to our WICKED AWESOME OSCAR PARTY to anyone who purchases this 10-pack before February 27th (the date of the party). This applies to first-time buyers (who will receive a free Cinema membership with discount and DVD borrowing privileges), as well as existing members who have just run out of the discount tickets. It’s still a wicked good deal all around, considering the quality of the programming, the uniqueness of the atmosphere and the fact that you don’t have to schlep Up-The-Line for any of it.
Thank you for helping us end our year for the first time in the black. Granted, it’s only 48 cents in the black, but hey – we’ll take it!
See you soon,
Rob Newton
