Things To Do- Cape Ann Community Cinema Oscar Party Sunday Night!

Oscars Poster

The Super Bowl. The World Series. The Stanley Cup. Nope – never heard of ’em. We do know that as winter starts to come to a close, it’s time to celebrate, not only because it’s no longer necessary to chip the caked salt from your shoes every night, but because Academy Awards Night is imminent.

The Cinema’s annual WICKED AWESOME OSCARS PARTY is this Sunday the 27th, with doors opening at 7:30pm. Guests will get to vote on the 7 major categories, and one winner of a private movie party will be chosen at random from the field of most-right predictions. The Party is free to attend, with a suggested donation of $10.00 to benefit the Cinema.

The Oscar-nominated short films will be playing all weekend: the Animated shorts on Friday the 25th at 7:30pm, Saturday the 26th at 5:00pm and Sunday the 27th at 4:00pm; the Live Action shorts Friday the 25th at 5:00pm, Saturday the 26th at 7:30pm and Sunday the 27th at 5:30pm.
The new documentary, THE HARMONY GAME, about the making of Simon and Garfunkel’s legendary 1971 album, "Bridge Over Troubled Water," will screen on Thursday the 24th at 7:30pm for a special one-night-only engagement. Door prizes will include copies of the film and the album on CD.
Want the full schedule? Either visit our website, or download the whole shebang through March 31.

A NOTE ABOUT TICKET PRICING

We do our very best to keep prices low (we have the lowest concession prices anywhere), but from time-to-time, we must adjust for inflation. I won’t say that it pains me to announce an increase in ticket prices – it’s only 50 cents across the board – but effective March 1, 2011, tickets will be priced as such:

$9.50 ::: Adults
$8.00 ::: Students & Seniors
$6.50 ::: Members
Premium tickets (fundraisers, operas, ballets) will remain as-is.
Until then, discount tickets are available at the present 10/$60 price (they will be 10/$65 after 2/28/11). As a special incentive, we are offering a seat to our WICKED AWESOME OSCAR PARTY to anyone who purchases this 10-pack before February 27th (the date of the party). This applies to first-time buyers (who will receive a free Cinema membership with discount and DVD borrowing privileges), as well as existing members who have just run out of the discount tickets. It’s still a wicked good deal all around, considering the quality of the programming, the uniqueness of the atmosphere and the fact that you don’t have to schlep Up-The-Line for any of it.
Thank you for helping us end our year for the first time in the black. Granted, it’s only 48 cents in the black, but hey – we’ll take it!
See you soon,

Rob Newton
