American Style Magazine named Gloucester #6
in Top 25 Arts Destinations for cities under 100,000
Cape Ann is home to a thriving arts community, one of the oldest in the country. For twenty-nine years Cape Ann Artisans has been inviting the public to visit their studios during their Open studio weekends.
This year’s fall tour will be held October 6th – 8th, Columbus Day Weekend from 10 am to 5 pm each day. The self-guided tour along the scenic coastline of Gloucester and Rockport presents a unique opportunity to meet 21 professional artists and see their work in the setting in which it was created.
The work represented includes: pottery, painting, sculpture, photography, mosaics, jewelry, hand-made glass beads, and weaving. Several of the artists will be demonstrating their working process during the tours.
Brochures with route maps will be available at the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, the Rockport Information Booth on Rte 127 and at each of the artisans. A bright magenta Studio Tour banner will mark each location.
For further information phone: 978-281-3347 www.capeannartisans.com
Many studios are open year round.
Hi Joey,
This isn’t a Crystal Ball, but these used to be used here in Gloucester every day. Any guesses? There’s a hint in the photo.
Enjoy!

Good day. I am writing today to remind everyone that the next major cruise ship of the season will be arriving in Gloucester Harbor on this coming Sunday, September 16: Holland America’s cruise ship the ms Eurodam, with a capacity of 2104 passengers. Once again the Chamber will be working together with the city of Gloucester’s volunteer welcoming committee and CATA to welcome and guide Eurodam’s passengers as they disembark and arrive at the Cruiseport terminal. The first tenders carrying passengers from the ship are expected to arrive at Cruiseport at approximately 9:00 am Sunday. Many will board motor coaches for planned excursions to various locations, while many others will be guided to CATA trolleys and buses for transportation to downtown Gloucester and Rockport.
Please note the attached “Welcome Eurodam Passengers” flyer, which we encourage you to print and post at your place of business to help give the Eurodam passengers a hearty Cape Ann welcome. I have also attached a flyer featuring several upcoming Chamber and community events scheduled for September and October, including next Tuesday’s (September 18) sales seminar with author Marc Wayshak at the Elks at Bass Rocks, beginning with check-in at 7:30 am. Please contact the Chamber today to reserve your place. Best regards. Peter

“Constantly choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil.”
Jerome John (Jerry) Garcia (1942-1995)
Founder, lead guitarist, and songwriter, Garcia led the Grateful Dead for thirty years, fusing blues, bluegrass and psychedelia to create one of the leading tour bands of all time. Throughout his career he was plagued by ill health, exacerbated by diabetes and heroin addiction. He died of a heart attack while in rehab at age 53. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cherry Garcia ice cream was named in his honor.

Joey,
Check out this camera they’re using. for the Wicked Tuna shoot. It’s based on a platform similar to an SLR. They use this one for shooting regular speed and another that shoots high speed at 1000 frames per second!

Here are some photos of the Fish Box Derby registration and weigh-in held last Sunday morning at C. B. Fisk. The race will be this Sunday, Sep. 16th, at High Noon on the Rogers St. Hill. We encourage everyone to come out there Sunday and cheer these fantastic kids on – the Thrill of the Hill is at its best with a great audience!
