An almost-extinct varietal (Elbling) revived, a brilliant sparkling Cabernet Franc (most popular at Oak and Ember), a Wine Spectator “100 best” favorite Pinot Noir, made from pressed juice from several different vintages as a result of California’s devastating wildfires, a unique Calabrian varietal, Gagliano, celebrating its 160th year and a powerful gem of a 2015 Médoc – just at its drinking peak now – this is indeed a tasting worth Savouring!

Crémant de Loire Brut Rosé “La Petite Marquise,”Loire, France, Varietal: Cabernet Franc, Alc.12.5%
The winegrowers make this crémant adhering strictly to the rules of the Traditional Method. Hand picking, gentle pressing, and cool fermentation (18°C) of the grapes ensure that all the aromas are preserved. a selection of the best wines undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle. La Petite Marquise is a lovely pink colour with brilliant highlights. It has a fine, persistent bead. Its fine, lively bouquet is full of fresh, red-berry fruit aromas (wild strawberries and cherries). It is well-balanced on the palate with good aromatic intensity. It follows through with a fresh, wonderfully subtle aftertaste.
Serve as an aperitif. Pairs well with quiches, savoury cakes, red-berry fruit sorbet, chocolate tart, dried-fruit desserts. $17.99
(From the Importer Vom Boden): ‘Zehnkommanull’ (which means 10%) is, for us at least, a sacred bottle of wine. It is sourced from old, terraced Elbling vineyards which would otherwise have gone fallow, if it weren’t for the heart and passion and sheer force-of-will of Matthias. He’s been making this wine since 1986, from about .15-hectare of vineyard. That’s right: point-one-five hectares, about 1500 square meters.
“Zehnkommanull” (which translates to “10 point 0”) is called thus because, even bone dry, it rarely ferments to more than 10% ABV. That is the magic of old vines – phenolic ripeness without excess sugar. This is an ultra-light white, a quivering, angelic, porcelain wine with glossy, razor-sharp edges and a laser-beam lemon-skin citrus. The structure, the saturating acidity, the tapering finesse and needlepoint fine-ness of the wine showcase its relation to that “other” grape of the Mosel, Riesling.
Pairs perfectly with grilled oysters, shellfish, and delicate white fish, such as Grey Sole or Haddock.

When Rollin Soles and Corby Stonebraker-Soles came to Oregon in the 1980s, they arrived at the leading edge of a movement. The idea of Oregon wine was actively in the making, emerging in real time through the daring efforts of people like Rollin and Corby and a diverse group of entrepreneurs who wanted to produce world-class wines in an unproven but promising winegrowing region. They built wineries, developed foundational industry organizations, and worked to establish Oregon as the premier place to make Pinot Noir and Chardonnay outside of Europe. Now, more than 35 years later, ROCO showcases Oregon winemaking at its peak—through a talent that has produced hundreds of 90+ scores from leading industry critics, repeated placement in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the World, and multiple bottlings served in the White House. The hills in the Willamette Valley are punctuated by gravel roads, which lead to the region’s finest vineyards. ROCO’s Gravel Road Pinot Noir is a blend of several of the distinctive vineyards including the Soles’ own Wits’ End Vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains AVA. The aromas of dark fruits like cherry, black plum and pomegranate, with a background of spices is followed by flavors of Luxor cherries, red cranberry compote, strawberry leather, black currant, mission fig, and prickly pear, spiced Sichuan peppercorn, petrichor, and Christmas spice on the palate. This wine has a most generous middle “sweetness” and a long, rich, sanded tannin finish.
Pairs well with grilled Salmon or Arctic Char, mushroom tart, and Pork tenderloin with mustard or boysenberry sauce. $27.99
Ippolito “160 Anni” Rosso, Calabria, Italy

In 1845, Vincenzo Ippolito stamped his initials on a country house that sat amongst vineyards, olive groves, and orange trees in the heart of the Marina of Ciro. With a 160+ year old history, Ippolito is Calabria’s oldest winery. Located in the historic center of Ciro Marina, the heart of Calabrian winegrowing, the company maintains a farm of over 100 hectares that are distributed amongst rolling hills and sunny plains near the Ionian Sea. At the forefront of the company’s mission is the restoration and enhancement of indigenous grapes such Gaglioppo, Calabrese and Pecorello. Through constant research, the use of innovative techniques, and direct control throughout the entire production process, Ippolito wines convey elegance and a strong identity with their territory. The company believes in preserving their environment by using sustainable farming and winemaking methods. For this tribute to the 160th anniversary of the Ippolito vineyard, only the best grapes are used. The 160 Anni pours ruby red with a complex nose of ripe blackberries, cherries, violets, juniper, cloves, cocoa and black pepper. Structured and round on the palate, it has intense flavors of dark fruit and a persistent finish.

One of the most—if not the most—famous red wine regions of the world, the Medoc reaches from the city of Bordeaux northwest along the left bank of the Gironde River almost all the way to the Atlantic. Its vineyards climb along a band of flatlands, sandwiched between the coastal river marshes and the pine forests in the west. The entire region can only claim to be three to eight miles wide (at its widest), but it is about 50 miles long.
Chateau Tour Prignac stands in the village of Prignac-en-Médoc, taking its name from the towers which adorn the structure. 973 saw a re-awakening of the vineyards, when the property came into the hands of the Castel Family; they immediately embarked upon a large-scale program of renovation and modernization. Today, Chateau Tour Prignac stands within one of the largest estates in Médoc and is proud to possess a vineyard specifically re-designed with quality in mind.
60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, the deep garnet color of this wine speaks volumes about its quality. A Powerful dense nose with aromas of black fruit, liquor cherries and fresh, high-quality oak. (Aged 12 months in neutral French oak). This is carried through to the palate with an additional touch of smoothness. The fine elegant tannic structure supports superbly intense flavors of Havana cigars and chocolate.
