Mayor Announces Water Restrictions

Sharing information from the Mayor’s office today (August 11 2020):

NOTICE OF WATER USE RESTRICTION

The City of Gloucester will begin water conservation measures for one month, through September 10, 2020.

Therefore, in accordance with Section 23-60 of the Gloucester Code of Ordinances, the Director of Public Works is instituting the following water conservation measures to help ensure an adequate supply of water to all customers:

1. Outdoor watering and lawn irrigation is permissible from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.
2. Outdoor watering is limited to “handheld” with a hose or a watering can after 5 p.m. or before 9 a.m.
3. Filling/replenishing of swimming pools from the City water supply is prohibited.
4. Washing of vehicles, boats, driveways and sidewalks is prohibited.

With these measures the City hopes to extend our reservoir drinking water sources further in case dry conditions persist and to cease these water restrictions in a month’s time as our demand drops off seasonally. Your cooperation with these restrictions is appreciated, mandatory, and enforceable as necessary.

We appreciate your cooperation and support of the City’s water conservation efforts.

4) È vietato lavare veicoli, barche, vialetto e marciapiedi.

Sunflower Good Mornin’

I’ve been awaiting the Colby Farm Sunflower patch to reopen, but was pretty sure I wasn’t going to feel able to distance myself adequately while there. I’d kind of accepted I wasn’t going to find myself awash in sunflowers this year and have something else to blame COVID for.

BUT Jim took me to a small field on Linebrook Road in Ipswich today (thanks neighbor Richard!) and I recalled Glen Campbell’s

Sunflower
Good mornin’.
You sure do make it like a sunny day.
Sunflower
Fair warnin’.
I’m gonna love you if you come my way.

For added value bonus points, a doe and two fawns joined me enjoying the sunflower field yesterday morning. Another day in paradise. Maybe this will brighten your day too.
