Spring Has Sprung
Celebrant and Folklorist Rose Sheehan will lead a lighthearted celebration of the Vernal Equinox and the Return of Spring at the Magnolia Library and Community Center on Sunday, March 24 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Drawing on the seasonal wisdom found in nature, mythology and folk customs, Rose will weave a mix of games, crafts, story and song throughout the afternoon. The celebration is appropriate for all ages. There is a suggested sliding scale of $5 to $15 per person.
We will meet upstairs in the Richardson Suite.

Vernal Equinox Bell Ringing
On Wednesday, March 20th, 2019 the 5th annual Vernal Equinox Bell Ringing will be celebrated in honor of global peace and care for the planet. Declared by proclamation in 1970 by United Nations Secretary General U Thant, the Vernal Equinox recognizes that “We are one human family and have only one Earth”.
The Community is invited to participate in celebrating the Vernal Equinox and recognizing local and global environmental champions. The program takes place from 5:00-6:00pm and features the ringing of the Gloucester UU Church’s Paul Revere Bell at 5:58pm, the moment of the equinox. Simultaneous events will take place with the ringing of the Peace Bell at the United Nations headquarters in New York, NY and Vienna, Austria, and at other locations around the world.
This is a family event and is open to the public

A Night at the Races Fundraiser
The Gloucester Rotary Club invites the public to attend their FUNdraising event – “A Night at the Races” on Friday, March 29, at Cruiseport Gloucester, located at 6 Rowe’s Wharf in Gloucester. Doors open at 6:30 pm. All proceeds from this event will support local and international programs of the Gloucester Rotary.
A Night at the Races promises to be a fun-filled evening for adults with all the suspense and excitement of being at the racetrack. A lifelong New England resident, Chef/Owner John daSilva, graduated from the New England Culinary Institute in 2004.  He trained in various kitchens including The Boarding House on Nantucket Island and Barbara Lynch’s flagship No. 9 Park before opening Spoke Wine Bar in 2013. During his time at Spoke, John received a great deal of critical acclaim, being named one of Zagat’s “30 Under 30” for Boston and earning the title “Rising Star Chef” from StarChefs.com. Most recently John was named “Best Chef, Up & Coming” from Boston Magazine.  When he’s not in the kitchen, John enjoys watching the Boston Celtics and visiting local farms with his beautiful wife Molly and their adorable daughter Maple.

Week 2 Defending Gloucester | Try Mr. Goulart’s local history trivia for 9th graders at Gloucester High School – good luck!
Over six weeks I’m posting local history trivia questions from Shaun Goulart’s creative weekly scavenger project for his 9th grade history class at Gloucester High School– except we’ll be one week behind the students’ pace. He explains that the “questions are multi-layered and usually have an image required in the submission. All questions will deal with Gloucester’s local history. I recommended to the students to utilize friends and family so your student may be reaching out to you for help. It is a competition and the prizes will be calculated into the Term 4 grade” for the students.
