DESTINO’S CELEBRATING 60 YEARS SERVING CAPE ANN!

At last night’s Cape Ann Chamber Gala we were proud to celebrate Destino’s 60 years serving Cape Ann!

Congratulations to Judy and Jim Destino and Caitlin and Christian Maki the next generation carry this legacy into the future.

Personally I love Friday’s Fish Chowder, but never had a bad meal at Destino’s. Great food, awesome service and spotless, everything you want in a great dinning experience!

Gorgeous kitesurfing on winter winds at Good Harbor Beach

It’s not something I see often on a cold January walk. Long before you reach the waters edge, from the road, out the window, across the marsh, colorful kiteboarding sails crisscross the horizon. What a visual treat and fun spectator sport. Treat yourself- go see!

Gloucester on the Move! Antique House historian Prudence Fish to talk at the Cape Ann Museum

image003

Cape Ann Museum is pleased to present an illustrated talk with local historian and author Prudence Fish on Saturday, February 2 at 3:00 p.m. This program is free for Museum members or with Museum admission. Reservations are required and can be made at camuseum.eventbrite.com. For more information visit capeannmuseum.org or call 978-283-0455 x10.

Prudence Paine Fish is the author of Antique Houses of Gloucester: The Families Who Built Them, the Mayor Who Moved Them and the Changing Face of the Harbor Village, which was published in 2007 by The History Press. She currently produces the blog: Antique Houses of Gloucester and Beyond! According to her blog, she grew up in a small New England town with a mother who was an antiquarian, so it was inevitable that she would be exposed to old things. After graduating from UMass/Amherst she lived in Connecticut, taught school, married, and raised three children in suburbia. A move to Newburyport, MA renewed her interest in all things old. This background has now evolved into research, writing and consulting… all the things she loves to do. Pru is volunteer at the Cape Ann Museum and can often be found sharing her knowledge at the White-Ellery House when it is open to the public during the summer.  On Saturday, February 2, Pru will talk about the once-common practice of moving and relocating houses. This program is offered in conjunction with The Little House: Her Story.

From Cuba With Love …
‘We’re stranded. Please send money!’  :O
That was the email I envisioned having to send when our Saturday flight home from Cuba was cancelled, due to weather. Direct flights on Jet Blue Cuba to Boston only run once a week. Worse was the fact we were nearly out of cash and U.S. ATMs and credit cards cannot be used in Cuba.
Stranded in Cuba. What do you do? Cuba is not a bad place to be stuck, but without a cell phone or computer (off the grid on purpose), it was not easy to book a flight. And no extra cash to stay longer. e scrambled to find an alternate flight to Florida. At least if we could get to Florida, ATMs, credit cards, a hotel computer and phone would be available.

We needed a mouse. Today. No problem! Abacus Computer & The MacDaddy renovated December 2018 to add in a RadioShack partnership to their brick and mortar PC and Apple computer retail and repair shop at 238 Main Street, Gloucester, Mass. I hadn’t noticed the new sign till today.

Busy Singing Beach on Saturday Morning

It was a busy morning on Singing Beach last Saturday! Lots of dogs, children and walkers.

Not sure what is going on with this person in the background here. I’d like to say I noticed this and that was the reason for the photo, but instead my eye was drawn to these  curious dogs.
